I just sold two paintings to the Children's Museum in St. Petersburg. They will be part of a travelling art exhibit that goes to every school in their district. The mobile art museum brings art to children who otherwise might never see an original painting. They selected these two because they portray an element of the relationship between art and the artist. I don't remember what order I posted them in, but the one of the artist being painted by the canvas is presently on exhibit at the McAffee theatre in St. Pete.
This year, I did not enter the art contest/exhibits at either the Florida State Fair or the Strawberry Festival, two of our biggest annual competitions. While they are very popular, the prize money is a mere token ($25 First Place). The real prize is the ribbon and the mention in the local papers. I have a drawer full of ribbons. What on earth do you do with those things after you bring them home?
Our new governor just saved the Federal government 2.8 Billion dollars by turning down money to build a high-speed rail in Florida. Most of our legislators are incensed by this decision. He is afraid that once built, it will not earn enough to sustain itself and the tax payers will bear the burden of subsidising it. I can't believe that I actually stand on the same side as the Tea Party crowd on an issue! Guess once in a while they actually stumble upon a reasonable position too.
