Getting a Few Things Done

Yesterday I raked the leaves from my front yard. It is a live oak and the leaves are no more than a half inch wide and one and a half to two inches long, yet I managed to fill twelve 33 gallon trash bags with leaves. That is a lot of leaves! It will need to be raked again in a few weeks, but I could not wait for the tree to stop shedding because the depth of leaves already there was killing my grass. I do not have the money to re-sod, so I have to do what I can to protect the grass I have. After the next raking I will re-seed.

My next big exterior job will be to pressure wash my house (day one) and then my decks out back (another day). The home-owners association has me on notice about the mold on the side of my house, and personally, I thought it was a petty complaint.

What they really want is for me to repaint my house but I cannot afford it. One year recently I was cited for a stained roof so I had to pay someone to come out and pressure wash the roof. All of this is intended to protect home values, and yet with the housing bust, the homes in my neighborhood have declined a whopping 56%! There are several foreclosures on my street including one next door to me. Those homes are abandoned and in a terrible state of disrepair. At least the HOA sued the banks holding those properties and just last week, someone was out cleaning up the front yard of the house next door. It looks so much better! I wish they would sell it so that I can have neighbors again.

BTW: At the very bottom of my house is not mold or dirt. That is where the stucco ends. The 'mold' I was cited for is the stain in the paint further up.

At least the HOA is holding the banks' feet to the fire as well as the residents.

Finally! It took them two years to take action. Right now, the house next door looks pretty good- except that the lawn died and it is all dirt out front, but that beats debris. They even pressure washed the house and driveway and I saw a prospective buyer come by.

I will be out raking up sweet gum balls as soon as it is warm enough. I curse the sweet gum trees in my neighborhood. I love the shadows in the
picture.

I am still blowing and raking. Over the weekend, I picked up two more bags of stuff coming off the tree and it is still falling. Now there are few leaves but a ton of seedy stuff.

That's a very nice picture of the wading bird. It reminds me of an Escher painting because the bird is wading but the foreground looks like solid ground, could be your yard after you raked up the leaves, and a few of them still there providing color contrast, and the poor grass that will now perk up in the sun.

It is a lake filled with Aquatic plants. That is one of the photos that I took at Lettuce Lake Park.

Nice photo. My house problem is moss/lichen on my porch roof. Bleach mix seems to work, albeit temporarily. Hope you're feeling well.

Health-wise, I am still waiting for the outcome of the tests and I have a few more coming up. I have been dealing with depression. This too shall pass.

Reminds me of my neighbor out in Long Beach, CA, whom I silently nicknamed "Mr. Got-All-The-Toys-You-Can-Buy." He bought one of those high-pressure washer machines that are used to get oil stains out of concrete driveways. He used it to pressure wash his stucco house walls and blew off so much stucco he had to pay to have it re-stuccoed.
Pressure washer - $285.00.
Stucco job - $3,500.00.

LOL- those things have settings, and I am careful doing the house. I only use the high settings on the driveway and sidewalks.

Even though it gets one outside, it is not fun. Oh well, it had to be done.

Whew! What a raking job! Brava! Have you ever considered getting a mulching mower? Just wondering. My former home had big trees, too, and tons of leaves to deal with. The mower solved the raking project and nourished our grass.
Is stucco prone to mold? I never thought so, but maybe everything in the Florida heat is susceptible to mold. Sorry it's a problem. And I'm glad your association got tough with the banks, forcing them to clean up their properties. I lay the housing crisis squarely on the banks anyway.

The banks get bailed out but heaven help me if I even think about being late!

Wow! That is a lot of leaves!
These really are tough economic times. I am glad to see the local governments down their are making the banks maintain the properties.
