Pretty spectacular pics on the news last night and all morning...of the big fire at Magellan Pipeline in Kansas City Kansas. For those who haven't heard about it...a tank that holds 58,000 barrels of product (that is 2,436,000 gallons) was struck by lightning during a thunderstorm last night and caught fire. The tank was about half full of unleaded gasoline...so about 1.2 million gallons. All they can really do is let it burn out, which they hope will happen by around noon today. They've done a good job of making sure that the surrounding tanks are kept cool to prevent a BLEVE (pronounced Blev-ee) (BLEVE stands for Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapors Explosion) That is the probably the greatest danger at the moment...Seems they have kept it well under control, and the other tanks cool, so the liquid couldn't reach a boiling point. They say it shouldn't have much impact on gas prices...but we all know that any excuse is a good excuse to raise prices...right?!!

All I can say is WOW! (I understand a LOT about what's going on there....worked for an oil company for 12 years...at a bulk facility like this one - only much smaller)
