Another Use for My Cutting Table

Mostly, I cut fabric on my cutting table. Occasionally, I cut paper, photographs and even ribbons or things like that. This week, my table got called up for a home repair job. I had to come up with a way to elevate the door so I could rescreen it because I can't do it on the floor any more.

After measuring both, I discovered that the door would fit on the table so that's where it went.

At first, I tried something called "Pet Screen" which is a heavy polyester. You can see it in the picture. It fights every step of the way when you try to put the spline in place and seems to get thicker and stiffer the more you work on it. I gave up after about a day and a half. Ugh. Then I got some regular aluminum screen. I zipped the spline in place in no time.

Before I could place the screen in the door, I decided it was looking a little scruffy so I scrubbed it and sanded it and then re-stained it.

I also got some hardware cloth to protect the lower third of the door from curious poking noses and impertinent paws. I'm very happy with the way that turned out too.

I still have to do the other one, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Good job! We've had to replace a door wall screen because of a cat (not ours) We tried to replace the screen and it was a horrible experience so we just bought a whole new door.

You have a valuable trait my family calls "stick-to-it-ive-ness." The door is beautiful, and the view looks like the view out MY back door.

Great job! I worked last summer rescreening pools here in Florida! When I first started reading I didn't know what to think...my best table for anything has always been a double-paned window! Just don't push too hard! I also helpedmy grandmother quilt for years! She was gtreat with puzzles, too! She would sit for hours with a small hammer...after school I would have to undo all of the puzzle pieces that were hammered in the wrong places!!! Isn't life full of wonderful ideas and people!!

I love the view of your back yard through that old-fashioned looking screen door.
