Ups and Downs

Life has really been a roller coaster ride as of late. Mostly it is emotional ups and downs which in a way are related to my physical ups and downs. I have been fighting depression. I hate getting up in the morning and would prefer to sleep all day. This is not good!!!!! Mostly it is the result of the slow healing of my back.

I know my back is gradually improving, but the key word is "gradually." It is going much too too slowly for me. I would like to be out doing the things I used to do and that still isn't possible. I am doing a few more things that I could do a few weeks ago, but I would like to be herding cows, riding my ATV, fishing, and even housework. Hopefully those activities will all come in time.

My stepson moved the rest of our cows to summer pasture. In the process, we were missing one cow. I went looking for that cow and to my big surprise, I found her hanging around the front ponds. Now that is weird behavior for a lone cow to be hanging out by herself unless she has a newborn calf. Well.... to my surprise... she did have a new calf with her. I thought we were through calving so this was a surprise to find a baby calf. But... it was a pleasant surprise. Of course, momma was in the protective mode and wouldn't let me near her baby. Also, the fact that I'm not moving very fast these days, made me decide to stay a far distance from her. My stepson moved her and the baby into the meadow and all is well with both of them. I'm still keeping my distance. lol

JR is off trucking, trying to catch us up financially after taking so much time off to take care of me. Today he is really frustrated as he is broken down in Fontana, CA and waiting for a truck part. He had hoped to be in Texas by tomorrow, but that is not going to happen now. He still has Buddy, our Border Collie, with him. Buddy has healed nicely from being gouged by the longhorn cow. I know he would like to be back home and not riding with JR in the truck, but JR hasn't had any loads coming this way, so Buddy is stuck riding in the truck.

This morning Buddy had a new experience for a country cow dog. He was tied up outside the truck shop in Fontana and one of those city gangs of stray dogs came through. He was really barking and growling. If JR hadn't come to his rescue, that gang of dogs would have killed Buddy. I'm sure that Cowdog Buddy now hates the city and is looking forward to being back with the cows, coyotes, and all the other local critters.

Well, I'm going to try to do some dusting today and then my caregiver can vacuum when she arrives later today.

Talk with ya later - Annie :o)

Just wanted to send some thoughts your way Annie. Getting ready for the babies has been keeping us pretty busy, but we think about you often.

What a neat surprise- the calf. That was good for a smile. Be patient with yourself. You will mend in time.

Hi Annie! I came to visit you again. It sounds like you are having some problems. I hope you are better real soon. You have some cows, too? Say Hi to Buddy.

So glad you posted, I've been thinking of you. I hope your back begins to heal at a quicker pace so you can do all the things you want to do. Good thing JR came to rescue for Buddy!! That must be awesome to be able to see a cow birth a calf!

It was good to catch up on all your latest. I've never dealt with depression, but was married to one that had it. Not fun. Hang in there.

It's so good to hear from you Annie, I was getting worried. Just take it a day at a time and try not to push yourself. You've had two surgeries in a few months time and it's going to be a slow recovery. I know it must be very frustrating. miss you *hugs tight*

I don't like to complain, but I have degenertive arthuritis
in my spine. The doctors tell me there is nothing they
can do, no surgery that will do any good. If it wasn't for pain pills,
I couldn't make it. I get 220 lortabs (1000 mg) per month and
take them all. So anyway, I feel for you and know where you
are coming from. Good luck and speedy recouvery to you.

There is a commercial for Tractor Supply that features dogs. The voice is an announcer speaking from the dogs' perspective and goes like this... "I've never been on a leash. I'll never be in a dog show. I'm not a pet, I'm a member of the family..." and it shows farm and ranch dogs herding sheep, riding in a truck, running behind a farm tractor, etc. Buddy would be that dog.

Recently had surgery myself Annie and I know exactly how you feel. My shoulder is taking a slow time to heal too, not fast enough for me. Get well..

It is going to take time Annie especially after having two back surgeries in four months time. Scott had the same two back surgeries in four months time too. He wasn't able to go back to work for almost a year. Hang in there.

congrats on the new "grandcalf". you just take it easy and let that back heal properly. Goodness knows you deserve a break with all that you've been through over the past year or so.

Backs are really a pain to deal with. Ray's mom is going through the whole chiropractor thing right now because she has been having so much trouble with her back. In fact, she was even using a cane for a while. It takes for ever to sort back problems out.
