Various Events

I couldn’t print anything out recently – kept getting an error message. This severely curtailed vituperative diatribes I wanted to mail to people who hide their E mail addresses, to tell them where they have gone wrong and I was dreading the prospect of having to get a computer tech to straighten things out. Of course this situation also prevented Ed from doing his guardian printing. But, this morning all the unsent documents printed out. I said to Ed that a Norton program he ran had to be key.

Yesterday we went to Moffitt (Tampa) for my 6-month mammogram and it is clear – so far, so good. On our way back we stopped at Ellenton’s discount mall and Ed (aka the shopaholic) indulged himself with another high-end suit at a bargain at their Saks store. I actually found two intense color tops that I liked. Most of their stuff for women looks garish, overdone, lots of flounces and draping – would go great at Halloween, also, shoes with 3-inch heels covered in glitter. I don’t think their women’s wear ever saw the inside of a real Saks store.

This morning we visited one of Ed’s charges, who had been warehoused in a lock-down mental hospital where he did not belong. It is hours away from our area, so Ed had not been able to see him. He has finally been moved to a residence facility – small, charming, conducive to graceful living not too far from us, in Cape Coral. The bureaucracy kept him a prisoner for almost a year and Ed couldn’t do anything about it – something to do with having no authority beyond county lines. Wayne, the ward, is 62, but has the mindset of a 15 year old and he dissembles when he is on his own, and needs people in his life. This residence would appear to be the solution. Wayne’s parents both died of Parkinson’s and he is at risk.

Ed then took him (and me) out to a McDonald’s for a Big Mac because he knows Wayne likes them. I had a chicken wrap. No way am I eating a Big Mac. Then we drove him back and got home around 2:30.

A day ago, a family trustee of another of Ed's wards, came from way out west, to see him. Ed had placed him in a facility in Punta Gorda. He spent the night at our place. We really liked him. He is very wealthy, and altruistic. You’d think he’d be a Republican, but he is not, and he enjoyed my pinboard leaning against a wall in the spare bedroom with the pins in all the right wing figures of the past several years. He totally funds a free clinic in Honduras. Totally not a Republican.

He was happy to confirm that his cousin was being well cared for and that Ed was doing a good job and went away happy. He is the only one of his family who is willing to oversee the ward’s care, what with the ward being extremely difficult and uncontrollable. He wants to send us free filet mignons on a continuing basis. Whoa!

On another subject, this morning some author interviewed on MSNBC (name forgotten already) who had been a pastor and lost faith, has a book out and he was saying how he was shunned after his views became public. Well, of course he was. The faithful blether on about altruistic endeavor but rarely indulge in it, unless you are just like them. If I were to say (and I do), I just want to associate with people of good will toward all of mankind, that automatically excludes most of the faithful of any religion in the world, starting with Evangelicals, whose mantra is “if you are not just like me, I will force you to be, or destroy you.”

The Muslims, of course, don’t care if you convert – they want to kill you anyway.

Thas' all,
xx, Teal

Hooray for the good checkup. I always used to get nervous around mammogram time until I got the good news.

Happy to know you're doing okay as well. The diagnosis isn't as frightening as it used to be -- early is the key. (plus heart -- program thwarts me.)

Delighted that you had a good check up. Ed does very worthwhile work and deserves filet mignons.

I have been thinking of you as I have been getting my new computer up and running and organized and linked and restoring all the bookmarks and connections that got eaten up when my last computer went over the rainbow bridge. I think we both may be over the worst of it....
So proud of Ed and the work he does....
In honor of your check-up:
