And he fessed up today on national TV. And some pundit on MSNBC, I don’t know his name, said what a horrid example he is setting for kids.

Well, first off, Weiner has some off tastes, and he was foolish and stupid to do this stuff, but leave the kids out of it. Please don’t tell me the little darlings aren’t getting their sex information from many sources and perhaps even reading 8 pagers. If any of you don’t know what those are – they are sexually explicit parodies of comic strips where familiar comic characters are drawn having lurid sex of every description. My little girlfriends and I managed to get some and devoured them when we were pre-teens. We thought they were hilarious. I think we grew up okay.

If you Google the term 8 pagers, you will get lots of info and also they are enjoying a renaissance and you can buy them.

Weiner said he will not resign, but I expect he will. I don’t care if he does or not if he is doing a good job. There was, apparently, nothing illegal about his actions. I think the moral purity that surrounds us now is overdone and offensive and then, of course, to quote that mythical tome, “let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”

There are those who keep saying that someone who will do this sort of thing can’t be trusted in anything. General Eisenhower had an affair with Kay Summersby, his driver. She wrote about it. President Roosevelt had Lucy Mercer. Thomas Jefferson had his slave, Sally Hemmings, and fathered one of her children. John Kennedy – you can hardly count the women he slept with after his marriage. A whole bunch of representatives and senators serving in Congress were caught cheating and some resigned. Google sexual scandals among the famous for many examples.

Ghandi, who saved India and has been just about elevated to sainthood, took a vow of chastity, counseled against marital sex, slept next to nubile naked women to test his resolve, had boys and girls sleeping together without interacting to test same. According to a biographer, he was obsessed with the subject and talked about it incessantly. Healthy attitude? No way. Yet India is independent today because of him.

Personally I don’t care who anyone is sleeping with. It’s between the person and the spouse. Convention pushes these people into lying about it. I don’t know why anyone, anyway, is asking, unless corruption was involved. We seem to be a nation of repressed psyches trying to feel superior over those who have been caught.

I wish the news media would leave this subject alone and get on to more important things. But the world is titillated by those who fall from grace. I am not.
