The Republican Convention

Tonight I watched the opening ceremonies of the Republican National Convention. Actually I was listening while making dinner. They had a couple of entertainers sing, in tandem, the strains of a wonderful song, “America the Beautiful.” As rendered by these “singers” it was the most maudlin, tasteless piece of crap I have ever heard. This wasn’t music. It was self-aggrandizing schmaltz. “Look at us feel this song. Look at us being emotional about Americuh. Look at us. Aren’t we special.” Well, no.

There is worldwide betting going on among the professionals as to whether Sarah Palin will stay on the ticket seeing as how her daughter is going to have a baby that is almost illegitimate – she’s getting married very soon.

If Chelsea Clinton had gotten pregnant, I don’t think the Republican faithful would have been as forgiving as they are to the young Ms. Palin. Anyway I’d like to hear the kid’s side of it. Maybe she doesn’t want to get married but if she doesn’t, Mom may not get elected and it’s all my fault. Oh, horrors, she might be thinking, “I’ve got to tie myself to the goofball I got tangled up with one night because Mom’s on the ticket.” Perhaps arrangements for a quiet divorce are already in the mix in a year or two when no one’s watching.

Wolf Blitzer and his crew were saying it was a big diss that Cheney was not invited to be present at these festivities. His service, whether you agreed with him or not, was long and commendable. But McCain thinks any official association with the administration is the kiss of death, so goombye faithful servant.

Then there is a lot of discussion as to whether Ms. Palin could serve as Commander in Chief, should McCain keel over. The fact that there is any discussion at all is mind-blowing. This charming, almost beauty pageant winner, has zero qualifications to lead in a global environment. I don’t care how good a mother she is, she is not presidential. I think she should take a hike in the Alaskan wilds and get under a glacier. Or have another baby.

Sarah Palin's first interviews outside of the protective Republican McCain campaign bubble tonight with ABC's Charlie Gibson were very telling. No clue what the "Bush Doctrine" is, and she thinks war with Russia would be a good idea, perhaps necessary. This woman is utterly unqualified, and it is obvious.

My question is, with all of the running for office and "trying to get up to speed" on information that she really doesn't know... when will there be time for a wedding? I looked at most of the convention, and all I can say is the "executive experience" is laughable. But, they keep repeating it over and over and over and.. ...

All for nothing. Both McCain and Palin will probably be vacationing in Hawaii come Inauguration Day, still wondering what happened.

I think McCain's ploy backfired. He chose Palin because she is a woman and a strong conservative (despite having a pregnant teen daughter. The GOP has always thought of McCain as more of a Liberal Republican than conservative.

I knew her town was small, but I couldn't believe just how small until they showed it on Nightly News. In terms of land-mass, the town is half the size of the Dallas-Forthworth airport. They quoted somebody as saying that the "city hall" looked like a bait shop on Louisiana--a tiny one-story building. I've heard of padding the resume, but geez....

The politico done the math, based on McCain's age, and thinks that statistically if elected Palin would have a 1 in 3 chance of having to take over. OUCH! She isn't qualified, at all, I mean mayor of a village (certainly not a city, barely a town). And she has alot of negative baggage that has nothing to do with her family issues. And that would be a bad place for her to be in..I feel for her as well.
