Now Read This

I find that when I post more than one piece in a day, no one reads the first one. So, people, backtrack a little because I’d like some feedback on the post entitled “A Response to A Conservative Columnist." Thankee kindly.

Elsewise, Joan leaves today and, as always, one week with any guest is just about right and I get my bathroom back, not a minute too soon. A while back, Ed decided not to join a re-enactment group at Gettysburg. On learning they would camp out on the battleground and recreate the conditions of the 1860s, he said, “No way. I’m Jewish. I need my own bathroom.” The other factor was that he had hoped to meet people as interested in Civil War history as he was, but the participants he saw were the tattooed wonders of the world, dreaming about reversing the facts and beating back the Union Army. No like minds there.

Distractions have contributed to not doing as much exercise, so I will be back on track tomorrow. I think.

xx, Teal

I'm picturing the old days when 'Now Hear This' was used in normal life, maybe at the Lions Club potluck or something. I looked it up: 'a phrase used aboard American naval ships as an instruction to cease activity and listen to the announcement that will follow.' And then it must have gotten out into American society, just like'Kilroy was here.'

I remembered the phrase from an old movie "Mr. Roberts" so I knew that it was ship-jargon. I've always kinda liked it.

I'm guilty of looking only at the Home page where it shows the most recent post, so if you had more than one in a day, I forget to look for those other ones. And then once in awhile, I do remember.

I meant ship some people from Pittsburgh, not PA.

No feedback must simply mean everyone's tired from shoveling snow, but still enjoyed your posts. Tell Ed we could ship some Gettysburg enthusiasts from PA to serve in his ...platoon? troop? And I'll make sure they're at least 50% pro-Union. Odd that I just saw on Craigslist an actual slave neckband from 1853, a shocking thing with an ad stamped into it saying the firm dealt in both horses and negroes. Still wondering if it's real.

Ed doesn't have a group here ... but he is always interested in talking with people who have a genuine interest in history and is always reading about world events of the past. The disappointment in the re-enactment is that his fellow would-be participants were low on the intelligence scale.

We have the American Civil War Museum of Ohio here. It is a great museum and very active. I am on a board that has combined the efforts of seven museums and art galleries here for publicity and events. Also, a group of Civil War buffs meet at a restaurant here monthly and discuss the history, etc. Several regiments of the Union Army were raised here from 1861 until 1864.

I don't go to the meetings. I wish I could, but something always comes up.

Ed might enjoy talking with your Civil War buffs. Do you go to these events?

Kudos on the publicity efforts, Jon!

mybloggers has been very quiet. Most of the bloggers are on facebook and cannot be bothered with mybloggers. That is one of the reason that we do not have many readers here.

I use Facebook to post some political opinions. I use it to find people I see on TV who are spouting lies and I respond to their lies. I use it to find old friends and if I make a connection, I ask them to respond via E mail from then on. For me, Facebook is a connection medium, not a social one. I wouldn't dream of posting personal stuff on it.

I have noticed that if your blog doesn't appear in the new articles
then you are out of luck with having a reader.

I kind of figured that is why ... I subscribe to the blogs on my friends lists and am notified by E mail so I see everything no matter how old.
