A Mystery

Ed had a medical order for a triglyceride test from Dr. Butler, his cardiologist, but we couldn’t find it. I said I’ll call his office and get a copy mailed to us. Dr. Butler recently changed venues, teaming up with a cardiology group. We had the new information. I called that number, got an automated message, his doctor’s name was not in the automated list, as in “press 1 for Dr. Whosits, 2 for … I reached a person. No information was available on who?

I called the old number, same thing. I called Lee Memorial, no record. I called our internist, who had recommended him to start, and his assistant did some research and called back. No one knows where he is, and that includes his doctor buddies. One assistant said she heard that he had retired, but that was only a rumor.
Ed is going to need a new cardio guy.

I really liked this doctor and wonder why he would just disappear. Or as one assistant said on the phone, “Dr. Butler has ‘left the building.’” Funny music is playing in my head. Maybe he “snapped” and hopped a freighter.
Doctors are human, after all.

xx, Teal

It is strange you can't find him. Here's what happened with my old doctor: When he left a group practice to go join another, by his contract he was not permitted to contact his patients to let them know where he went or that he was even leaving them. And the old practice wouldn't tell me. They wanted me to make an appointment with one of their others. I had to find him through my insurance company.

But he informed his patients by letter of his new association. And they don't have him either.

That's really odd, isn't it? In the old days we signed permissions for our records to be transferred to new doctors and we had the option to go get our records from that retiring doctor to hand carry to a new doctor of our choice.
