Minutiae of the Month

I broke a glass putting it into the dishwasher. I picked up pieces from the floor and checked the well of the dishwasher and then I noticed it heating up. So I finished loading it and ran it even though it was early in the evening. When it was done, the heat went off and I thought maybe it was a one -time thing. No. It happens every time I roll the bottom tray out and a GE repair guy told me on the phone this morning that he shouldn’t come after all because he didn’t have the unit he needed to replace so that the electronics could go back to normal. So he’s coming next week instead. I can manage till then, being sure not to keep the bottom tray rolled out for too long.\

Meanwhile, back to the original incident, I hadn’t realized that I cut my index finger and it had been bleeding as I pursued my chores and by the time I noticed it, I had a trail of blood on the tile, on my pants, on the carpet, and on everything I’d touched. I had to use a plastic glove over the hand because I have my hands in water so much that the bandage kept peeling off. This went on for three days. It was, apparently, a deep cut.

The other thing about the unit is that it has become displaced in the well so that the upper tray rolls out without one bidding it to. This is truly annoying. The repair guy said that wasn’t his thing, but that if he could reset the washer without having to unscrew anything, he would do it, else I’d have to call the outfit that installed it.

When I had called GE to set up the repair appointment, I got a woman who had to be watered in order to function. She asked for the model no., I gave it to her. She repeated it back and got it wrong. I gave it to her again. This contretemps happened with the serial no., with my address, with my phone no. and with Ed’s last name (I use a hyphenated name). I was very patient. Also, although I spelled the name three different times, she kept using it with an “n” in it and there is no “n”. Then she started talking about charges and I said, Whoa, we have had this dishwasher less than a year and it is under warranty. So she said okay. So when the repair guy called this morning, the first thing he wanted to do was go over the charges. So I put him straight. In this economy, it is brutal to put someone out of a job, so I did not complain, but, truly, she needs to be doing something else. Perhaps standing on a street corner with her arms out because there is no stop sign.

I continue to post responses to inane interviews I see on TV, where a Republican puts forth his agenda that differs not at all from the one that voters rejected. I find the person on Facebook, and set him or her straight. Hey, it’s a pastime and is very good for my blood pressure.

I had a similar experience with another customer service rep. She could't spell my name, after I gave it to her and then spelled it three times. K---a---r---e---n. "K" as in kill, "a" as in apple, "r" as in red, "e" as in elephant, "n" as in Nancy. I asked for a manager but was told he wasn't available or something so I said goodbye and hung up. I got an email from them asking about my experience and told them to give her a long class on speaking the English language and listening skills.

Someone called me almost immediately to help me with the original problem. Grrrr! Sorry about your cut - fingers do bleed a lot.

Not funny about the finger these things happen at times , like yesterday was real proud about not spilling oil over the cement but when i came in Cath said i had oil on my shirt, cant win the dishwasher story gave me a good laugh

If my dishwasher broke you would have to go see him in the hospital. Glass fragment cuts are harder to heal. I think it has something to do with the keen edges and that they are deeper cuts. Be careful and don't take "no" for an answer from repair people or warranty reps.

If you lived with Edward, trust me, you would get a dishwasher. He eats many small meals throughout the day. At night, you'd think we had a party and there is hardly any room to fit in the last dish from the last snack of the day.

Sounds a bit scary to have random electrical components energized when the machine is off since there is water involved. You're probably lucky you didn't get zapped.

What I was worried about was the heating element heating without water in it, which is its norm. Anyway, I can deal with it until the guy comes.

I hope you have recovered from your cut. Stupidity is everywhere and it
is exasperating.to the stupidto you.

I know a few people who would excel at the job of stop sign.

Let's make a list -- and from The Mikado, "and they'd none of them be missed."

You wonder how nitwits like your GE woman get through life. Reminds me of the pre-programed counter guy at McDonalds who, after you order nothing but fries, says "Do you want fries with that?" Good luck with your dishwasher. We probably use ours twice a year. I just wash stuff in the sink.

Ed uses many, many dishes throughout the day. It is a major clean up since, if he takes one dish to the sink, he believes he has "done housework."

Sympathizing.... And applauding your patience!

I just had an unbelievable experience with a telephone operator at The Office Depot--too long to go into but doesn't surprise me OD is in trouble like so many companies today--honestly it seems like no one knows what they are doing--no wonder "Undercover Boss" is such a hit--the 'don't know what they are doing' emanates from the top!!
Taking blood thinners for 13 years I have blood paths all over the place!

Sorry about your blood leaks ... I just kept getting it on everything. Finally it has stopped. Had to wipe off the piano keys too.
