Erika Not a Problem

Reassuring everyone that Ed and I are okay. Erika was a tropical storm and nothing more. I thank Jeri for posting an alert.

I've been feeling undermined by positional vertigo and doing exercises to deal with it. It has something to do with crystals being out of place in one's inner ear.

But this is slowing me down.

The media had us all alarmed. Thankful you are ok except for the
vertigo which is horrid enough.

The media can make people hysterical. Just before Charlie they were predicting an 18 foot storm surge. Our property is 9 ft above sea level. I said to Ed, what would we do? He said go into the attic. Is there a way out of the attic, I asked. He said no. I said I'd rather take my chances swimming down Island Avenue and trying to avoid the downed electrical wires. Anyway, there was no surge. The storm came by and tornado activity did total a couple of very old small houses. It also pushed over at least one tall palm into a house next to it. We had a huge coconut palm at the edge of our property that was bent (I took pictures) to the ground but it bounced back up. It was recently struck by lightning and we had to have it removed. It's like losing a friend.

Good to hear from you Teal. How's the bridge? Can you get off the island or is it flooded?
comment by catdancer on Aug 31, 2015 11:00 PM ()
There was no flooding at the low end of the island (near Pine Island Road). There was, I think, some flooding elsewhere, but I didn't pay attention. Even the badly constructed driveways didn't hold water more than a day. We have a new bridge -- can't remember if they were building it when you were here. They placed it next to the old one and got rid of the old one when the new one was operational. It took forever. If you come this way again, don't forget us.

Off and on in the last several years I have had vertigo. First episode was so bad, I had to go to the ER. Since then, milder episodes I control with meclizine. But I have been reading up on it, and it appears that crystals form in the inner ear and move around. One can dislodge them by doing certain head exercises. As for barometric pressure, I am not aware of its making a difference. I learned also that head trauma can be a factor and I did hit my head when I was rammed by the car. I was about to sign off on the insurance claim, but am re-thinking that because I may go for physical therapy.

screwed up on my reply ... see above your entry.

We've been thinking of you, Teal. Does the barometric pressure change also affect your inner ear?
