Yesterday Ed gave in to his wish list because BJ’s was offering a great deal on a HD flat screen TV, so he got a Sharp 60 inch and we (with help) loaded it into the SUV and brought it home. Our dear neighbor, Gary, helped him set it up on the stand that came with it -- later we will attach it to the wall.
Today a guy from Dish Network came to hook it up and he worked several hours to make all our TV connections compatible. Then they plugged it in and it didn’t work. Lots of frustration, and Ed was on the phone arranging for Sharp to send someone on Friday and I went for a bike ride.
I got home to an empty house – the TV was gone-o. No note, but then, Ed never leaves notes. Also, his cell phone wasn’t on. So I called gtf Nadine, who I knew had come over to deliver a pie made for Ed by Marie-Paul, his student to whom he is teaching English. There goes my waistline. Nadine told me that Ed and Sheldon, the TV guy, had loaded the TV into the SUV and gone to return it to BJ’s. Oh.
Ed called a bit later to say he was close to home, and had the same TV with him because when they had plugged it in at BJ’s, it had worked. He wanted me to get Gary to help him get it into the house again (this sucker is really heavy) so I walked next door and dear Gary said he would be over in a few minutes. Then at 7:30 p.m., Sheldon came back, having finished some other job, and anyway, his parents live down the street, and he got everything working, and now we can watch TV again. We still don’t know why it didn’t work the first time.
Then I located all of the cats, because our doors were open during this operation. Two, however, had got into the spare bedroom that is usually always kept closed. I found Max by the headboard, but couldn’t see Brunswick. After hunting everywhere, I went back with a flashlight and located him nesting between some boxes stored under the bed. I couldn’t reach him, so I closed the door on them to give them a chance to get tired of being in there.
Ed is exhausted. Me, not so much. I don’t worry about things that can be fixed. A lost cat, however, is a totally different story.
