Pre-halloween 20081029

Not too much to write about this week. Some work-related stuff, but I'll leave most of that out.

One thing is the pine oil. There was apparently a bottle of pine oil disinfectant under the sink in the kitchen. It's the concentrated form of what is in Pine-Sol. Monday morning the whole, two-storey building smelled of Pine-Sol. Our kitchen being the worst. Because it's oil, it's not really evaporating and is soaked into the wood cabinet floor under the sink. Today is Wed and the fan is still blowing on it. Someone put some cat litter on it last night or this morning. Maybe that will pull out some of the oil.

Dolly is the room parent for Kitty's class, so she was putting together the Halloween treat bags for the kids. In earlier years it made more sense, but I don't know what kids her age would appreciate. She's trying not to fill it up with candy, so has plastic fangs, glow-in-the-dark stretchy skeletons, temp tattoos, etc. She'll make veggie skeleton cat with dip for their party on Fri, which I'll be attending in her place, with our camera.

I don't remember if I have written about Kitty's costume. Her school does historical Halloween, where the kids 3rd grade and up have to dress as a historical figure and write a report about that person. On Halloween, they take turns getting up in front of their class and read it to the class. After that, then the school gathers in the gym and they are organized into a timeline and are marched in sequence across the stage, where each child says their (character's) name. I had the same role last year, when Kitty was Sacagawea. This year she is Annie Oakley. Dolly made her costume again and we bought a few rifle ribbon metals to pin on it. She will not be carrying a rifle or gun of any kind though, which would be an important accessory, but not allowed.

A long time ago on blogster, mrsstu, pointed out that we can just press L in the channel selector. That is so nice to be able to do that. A default channel would be better.

Neat idea to encourage students to dress as historical characters. I look forward to the pictures.

What a cool way to integrate Halloween and costumes intot the curriculum.
That smell must be really rough to deal with.

I love that idea of the historical Halloween costumes; sounds like that school managed to figure out a constructive way to deal with the fun of dressing up instead of banning it all together like some have done.
