Wristwatch

I had several "cute" post titles in mind, but decided on the straight forward one.

Over a year ago, my wristwatch band broke. I kept postponing getting a new one--or a new watch, since they're so cheap.

At first, I stuck the watch in my pocket to carry around. Then I began leaving it at home because I hardly ever looked at it, and it made a lump in my pocket, which looked suspicious. If I left home, I was in my truck, and it has a clock, so why bother?

I've come to realize I don't need a watch, period. When one ages, time isn't all that important, especially for a retiree. I really don't care what time it is. That doesn't mean I'm not a clock watcher. I'm still pretty routine oriented. I set my alarm clock so not to oversleep (but never do), eat lunch at noon, snack at 3, etc.

Tonight, daylight savings time ends. You know what that means? I'll have to figure out how to change my watch that's permanently sitting on the kitchen table. That's too technical for me! I didn't even bother with changing it last Spring when I went to Utah. "Press #2 3 times, then #3 4 times, then back to #2 ......... Good grief.

And speaking of DST, this time change really screws me up. I'll be waking up now at 5:45, want to eat lunch at 11, get constipated from the change in my schedule, and who knows what. All for what purpose?

Indiana went 30 or 40 years with no DST or change of time. Suddenly, we decided to "get with the program" like all the other states. Personally, it's a big pain in the butt--literally.

Have a nice weekend. I won't. (Really, I will. But don't tell anybody.)

I am so used to it- does this mean Florida and Indiana are now on the same time zone all year?

Yes indeed. The place where I stay (stayed) in Florida is one mile from central time zone. Makes for confusion when moving back and forth.

The Russian story was on the NPR Morning Edition, including a sound-bite with translation. I was burning wood for a week in September and then 6 days starting last weekend. It's supposed to be 55 today and 60 tomorrow. Even tho it gets cold at night, I don't like to let the insert smolder all day and I certainly am not going to relight it every evening. See what happens by midweek. I think it's supposed to rain on Thrusday. The house doesn't stay as warm during the day when the sun isn't shining as it has been for days and days!!

Getting dark early sucks. Should choose one time and stay with it. Will be happy, however, to get the extra hour, and yes, it does count even when one is retired because the cats know when they eat. I have a Seiko watch and the gold/stainless band flops on my wrist like a bracelet. So what? I like it. Maybe you don't need a watch because you live alone. Two people sharing a life need to know what time it is at least some of the time. Also ought to be on time for social events, dinner with friends, doctors' appointments, classes one chooses. The clock in our SUV isn't set. I don't know why Ed doesn't set it -- too complicated, or something. Should re set all our clocks now.

Thanks for your assessment. I just meant this as a fluffy post. No biggie.

Arizona is still holding on its DST ban. What other states?

Maybe Hawaii? I didn't check to see if my computer switched times. The date and time gets screwed up anyway--new battery needed.

Over a year ago I bought 10 watches for a dollar each at the Dollar Tree store--all having different colored watchbands--one had a spider-man face another 'ice age'dial, the rest plain--all had different color bands--all still working fine and I don't worry about losing/breaking them.

I LOVE daylight savings time from March to November--like that light at night and who cares about ONE night of extra sleep??? I can do that every night if I want!

You mean one HOUR extra. I hope you don't sleep an extra day! I like the idea of having different watches, but I think it's a gay thing, right?

prisoner of time here -- don't mind at all. love my watch. would go nuts choosing a different color every day.

Whenever the time changes, I stumble around tired and crabby for a week. My body doesn't know that it got an extra hour. How does that work, anyway?

It's a big ado over nothing. I feel sorry for the outdoor movie theaters in the summer, that's all. Sure enough, I woke up at 5:40 this morning!

I love DST - in the spring. I do like the extra hour of sleep but I will really miss daylight. Sorry your routines will be messed up. So will Kraymer and Tucker. Kraymer will be staring at me for dinner at 3:30 I bet...

Hey Kristi. Either way, I don't object to time switching, despite my comments. One adjusts. It's still the same amount of light and dark hours.

It will be light out for awhile when I get up, so for that I can't complain. The Russians didn't switch this year... "bad for our health". Since when did the Russian government care about its' citizens health? Moscow won't see the sun until 10am. On the brighter side, it will switch back to DST again in 127 days--a third of a year. Guess that isn't so bad.

Where did you hear about what the Russians are doing about DST? Strange news to discover! I bet you've been burning wood already, right? Me too.

About the time change...I agree. Kids will be going to the bus in the dark
and it is depressing for the guys to get home to lamp light. All a part of
winter, my unfavorite season.

Actually, kids will be getting on the bus IN the light. But now I can't take a walk after supper--too dark. And too cold!
