The Way I See It

From my local newspaper, I wish to comment on several news items.

I see that a local middle school is starting a dress code for students this year. Boy do I have problems with that. I understand the theory behind it, but I agree with a student that says, "it sucks". I believe in individuality, not conformity. Besides, good teachers have no discipline problems due to clothes kids wear--if that's the issue. I know it's supposed to be gang and clique related, but a dress code isn't the solution.

If I was a resident of Bell, Calif, I'd be pretty upset upon finding out the salaries of city administrators and council members. How did they get away with it for so long?

How was Rod Blagojevich elected in the first place? What are we, a nation of idiots? I hope he gets his come-uppance.

BP is really taking a hit. How quickly will Americans forget? And how about mother nature dispersing all that gulf oil?

I can hardly stand "the party of NO". Republicans have blocked legislation imposing new restrictions on political activity by special interest groups. Why? We know the answer (despite their rhetoric). Swine.

It's coming to a head--the Arizona illegal immigrant law. It's going to be chaotic Thurs (July 29), just wait and see.

Finally (for now), Afghanistan. What in the name of Benedict Arnold (or Judas) has, is, and will happen over there? $33 bil more money down a rat hole, more lives lost, a total waste of time and effort. Insane, I say.

Time for lunch. Hope I have the stomach for it.

Rod Blagojevich and Charlie Rangel; I hope they both get their come-uppance. I can't imagine why anybody would keep Rangel in office for 40 years. We really need term limits. Politicians feel like they deserve these offices. It's absurd.

And we (IN) have Richard Lugar who, fortunately, is a good senator. He's clean and honest, never bad-mouths anybody, and often votes with the Democrats. I have mixed feeling about term limits.

I am presently distressed about the two candidates we have for Governor.
They are both women so we will have our first woman Gov. but hate the Republican candidate who is almost as dumb as Sarah Palin. I am not in love with the Democratic candidate but will vote for her.

Interesting. Sign of the times. Always vote Democratic.

And to top it off, Catalonia (the region in NE Spain around Barcelona) has banned bullfighting to begin in 2012! Finally! Mi gusto esta mucho! Some good news.

Either way, hurray. What a horrific "sport". Which brings up a question: Is cheerleading a sport?

Me gusta mucha, I meant.

Randy I don't quite agree with you--in the 30s, 40s, 50s 60s all students wore a shirt, tie and long pants (we couldn't wait to go to school so we could wear long pants!!!) to go to grade and high school--and there were still 'individuals'---teachers set the example of dress--no shorts, halters--females dresses , men jackets--and we all survived!

We never shouldhave gone into Iraq or Afghanistan--we wouldn;t ahve sucha deficiet plsu we have not and will not accomplaish anythingthere--way past the time to come home!

The subject of dress codes is certainly unimportant with what is going on, big picture wise. So I won't argue. There are points to be made on both sides.

I'm baking pies today. Wish you were here to sample them.

I got up early today and made a coffee pie.

That blueberry pie you made will stay with me forever (memory of). I could be at your house in 18 hours!

Yes, those are varied topics. I am most concerned with the Gulf oil- DWH situation but my views are influenced by the CG. What a mess!
comment by dragonflyby on July 28, 2010 10:19 AM ()
Understandable. That situation is far from over.
