Thanksgiving Eve

Here's wishing all of you a Happy Thanksgiving!

We're having "ours" today (Wed.) at my sister's house. In-law families insist on having theirs on the actual Thanksgiving day, so we are accommodating their wishes. We could do it Friday, but my Honduran family is leaving then.

My contribution is sweet potatoes, corn, and persimmon pudding, all of which I have to make this morning. I have to make a run to the IGA for milk and eggs first.

Reason? Well, I didn't know my two daughters were "camping out" at my house. With their husbands and 4 kids, they've depleted my pantry of the dairy products, bread and peanut butter! I'm the last to know about their plans. Just go with the flow! My ex-wife, mother of my kids, was here for 4 hours yesterday (which she appreciated greatly). I played golf!

I counted 8 overnight sleepers, excluding me. Being used to total quiet, I heard every moan, cough, bathroom visit, baby cries, etc. Consequently, I had a rough night.

But, despite the stress of "shepherding" the crew, I've enjoyed having half my children (2 of 4) and all my grandchildren home for the holiday. I'm really trying to give them attention and love. That means letting the dishes stack up, the living room cluttered with toys and Barbies and whatevers. It's a disaster area! It's all worth it.

One neat thing about having Thanksgiving a day early is I can relax tomorrow, home alone, watching football games uninterrupted. I'll soon be back to my old "solitary" self, appreciating the quiet more than ever.
P.S. My hearing is restored, better than ever. What a relief!
Cheers!

Sounds like a fun Thanksgiving all around, family, yes, they can be loud and invasive, but it's a nice change of pace, right?

True, I like variety and a "change of pace", but this T-giving was a little over the top. My sister even invited her friend AND her dog! In the house. I'm scared of dogs.

Thank you for sharing the recipe for your persimmon pudding! Adding persimmons to my shopping list to make the mashed persimmon pulp.... It is not unlike a steamed pudding which could be done in a double boiler. Maybe I'll try it both ways just to see. Thanks, Randy!

Just for you!
1 C persimmon pulp (good luck in finding some!)
1 C milk
1-2 eggs ( I like 2 small)
Beat and mix together

Combine:
1&1/2 C flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp (or less) salt
1/4 tsp ea cin. & nutmeg
1/2 C sugar
Optional additions: nuts (like pecans) and/or raisins
Add about 2 TBL melted butter to dry mix

Pour dry to liquid and mix well. (You can add the cup of milk now instead of at the beginning and alternate the mixing process)

Pour into an 8x8x2 buttered or greased pan and bake 45' at 300 deg.
Serve warm with ice or whipped cream.
It's more like a cake than pudding, but still delish!

Happy Thanksgiving both days. Enjoy the parades.

Do you honestly think I'm the type to watch parades? I did see the Rose parade live, once.

Did you grow the persimmons? Never had persimmon pudding.

I have two persimmon trees. Everybody raved about the pudding!

Bad timing, buddy. You should have waited until the relatives departed and THEN had your hearing restored! HAPPY THANKSGIVING, RANDY.

That occurred to me! I ate my fill. Always have a turkey leg. My sister's pecan pie was awful--she added coconut. Blah!

How about yours? Good?

I'm glad you will have a day surrounded by your loved ones. And tomorrow, non-stop futebolo (as Mom used to say). Will you watch the Rose Bowl parade? Enjoy. (Meanwhile, be kind to your ex. It may have unexpected joys.)
