It Can't Be September!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I'm not ready for September! I get "depressed" just hearing the word. But, alas, it's upon us.

I think it's because September used to indicate school was about to start (after Labor Day in the good old days). As both a student and teacher, I dreaded school beginning.

I now think about the end of summer sun and warmth, gardening and golfing. Boo hiss. Oh well, it's still great to be alive.

I golfed 5 days this past week with good days and bad. Strange game. After early morning golf yesterday, I went to my daughter's to help harvest for today's markets. I picked pole beans and red raspberries (mostly) for 6 hours. It was a weedy jungle out there which kicked off my allergies (now coming in the Fall rather than the Spring). I was miserable and went to bed an hour early.

The weather people keep predicting a ton of rain for the weekend, but so far, nothing. I had indoor activities all planned, but I may have to alter them. Applesauce making, for one. House cleaning for another. And more time on the piano now that it was tuned this week.

I have no regrets about avoiding the Rep. Nat. Conv. But from what I gather, they did a great job distorting and/or avoiding issues relevant to our nation and current president. And how can they praise what Clint Eastwood did?
What a bunch of losers.

Well, despite it being September, have a great Labor Day weekend. Cheers.

I too skipped the Rep. Nat'l Convention, but later saw clips of the Clint Eastwood speech, somewhat eroding my hero worship. Getting old is hell, eh?

In Finding Ultra, he mentions Brendan Brazier. I met him and got a pix and signed book - Whole Foods to Thrive (vegan). I really liked Eat and Run by Scott Jurek, another vegan ultra runner.

How cool is that!!! I'm still not going vegetarian, let alone vegan!

I'm not totally out of shape. I ran 12k this morning. Doing a 7 mile/11.2k race on Sept. 16. I may not be fit/fast enough to reach my goal though (under 1 hour, last year I was 1 hour, 2 minutes!).

Lots of luck in breaking the 1 hour barrier! I quit reaching for goals several years ago. It was becoming less fun to run. Plus, I'm not a kid anymore. I just read "Finding Ultraman", about a guy (Rich Roll) who overcame alcoholism to become one of the great triathletes. I was interested in his diet--vegan!

I'm thrilled to say goodbye to summer, my least favorite time of year. This year was the utter worst with the heat. Glad it's gone!

And some people are Republicans, while others are Democrats.

Honestly, Solitaire -- know you? How is one supposed to react to the sentence that YOU DREADED THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR? Am I supposed to KNOW that it was the end of a long run and you were just tired? Really? May your other friends have ESP.

Gee, I don't remember saying I "hated being a student and teacher". As a matter of fact, I loved school and learning and teaching!!!!!!!!!! It's just that after 52 years in the classroom, I was ready for my release. I love summer and the outdoors. Being indoors was difficult for me. Honestly, for as long as you've known me, I'm amazed you really don't.

I love, Love, LOVED September when I had school aged kids. Now it just means we're that much closer to the rainy season.

That "rainy season" has hit us already (Hur. Isaac remnants). Otherwise, this is usually a dry time of year. We can use the rain.

IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!!!! (If you aren't a teacher and have school aged kids at home).

I did enjoy a summer of 10 hour work weeks, sleeping in almost every day, lazy days, and eating poorly, but I'm ready to get back to exercising, eating good food again, and having more time away from children (but not going back to 20 hour work weeks!) Dang, I'll have to clean the house and shower more than once a week.

As a retired person, it's really no big deal. It's a state of mind. I just hate not golfing or gardening come winter. I'm surprised to hear you're "not in shape"! I got in 8 miles walking/jogging yest. More today.

We are still having warm/hot days so September is OK so far. A little present from Isaac in the form of rain today and tomorrow. It is going to rain on our parade.

We had one 30' downpour yest. and that's all--so far. Actually, we could use some more. I really like September--its fragrances, color, garden bounties, etc. I just don't want it to be followed by winter.

Think that Clint has a little or more dementia there. He looked incoherent.
No sure why they had this old man up there.Yes,he is Clint and he is in like flint.I did not watched this saw this all over the place and the news media was having a field day of this.

I'll try to remember him as I saw him in "Bridges of Madison County". I'm just disappointed he's a Republican.

Ok, now I am off on another search. What Clint Eastwood did? What did he do other than speak at the RNC?
comment by dragonflyby on Sept 1, 2012 7:27 AM ()
I hope you checked it (him) out by now. Pathetic.

I think Clint Eastwood made an utter fool of himself from his appearance, (fusty and old) down to his empty chair.
comment by elderjane on Sept 1, 2012 7:07 AM ()
I agree (from what little I saw on the news).

I'm sorry to hear you hated being a student (and hated being a teacher?) What an unhappy life. September, being my birth month, was always a happy time for me. But beyond that, I loved going back to school (go figure) and I loved the change in the weather, that nippy kind of day with a full sun shining and no humidity and, when I was older, going to all the performances because September is when all the arts come back. And then the leaves changing and the first snow. For me, February, up north, was the worst month, because it was the bitterest.
