Okay, I admit to watching a little too much Olympics action. I've even stayed up beyond my bedtime. Horrors! And I've even turned the TV on during the afternoon to see what was happening. Double horrors!
I've enjoyed the standards--gymnastics, swimming, etc. And I've become familiar with some odd sports--field hockey and kayaking to name a couple. Some are exciting, some boring.
I can't get into soccer. Really boring. Fencing and table tennis are too fast for these slow eyes. Volleyball must be a popular viewer sport--it's on every time I turn on the telly. It's not my fave: bump, set, spike. Bump, set, spike, over and over and over. (I remember Hayduke's (Jim) post on beach volleyball 4 years ago. He's a big fan. The skimpy bikinis actually embarrass me. I suppose it's the closest thing we come to the original nude Greek Olympics!)
There's all these "preliminaries" and heats. Overload. And then there are variations in the same sport--one man, two man, 4 man, team, etc. I have enjoyed the rowing, if for nothing else, the teamwork involved in rowing. Amazing. And strenuous! Whew!
I don't know how many "sports" (and I put the word in quotes because I have my doubts as to what constitutes a sport) are in the Olympics, but not much is left out.
I heard tell "tug of war" is no longer a "sport". And didn't "speed walking" once belong? I guess it's all evolving. Next, we'll be having tricycle racing, soapbox derby downhill, darts, backward mile, or some other "weird" activity (like the Senior Olympics has a softball throw).
I'm not complaining, just commenting.
Speaking of walking, I figured I walked and jogged 193 miles in July. That averages 6.2 miles per day, including days I babysat, drove to Michigan, etc. Little wonder I weigh only 120 lbs (at 5'8")!
Back to the Olympics. Later.....
