And They're Off!

I'm a little peeved that I'll miss the opening tip-off(s) of the NCAA basketball tournament today (due to a previously scheduled appointment with a certain proctologist), but I think there will be more than enough games on TV to satisfy my addiction.

It seems there are only two things on TV this week: basketball and Japan-- Charlie Sheen makes three. I'll try to limit my viewing. Actually, I'll tire quickly, so not to worry on overdosing.

I decided to make my picks this year--just for my own amusement. If the President can make his choices public, so can I.

Final Four: Kentucky, Pitt, and San Diego State beating Notre Dame to win the whole enchilada. I enjoy going out on a limb with my selections. It's my rebellious nature--being different.

Why do I pick SDSU to become national champs, you ask? Because I know nothing about them! Never watched them play. Ignorance is bliss! Besides, they only lost two games all year. I smell upset(s). I also like the weather in San Diego. Not that that has anything to do with basketball.

By the way, my alma mater (Ind. U.) didn't make it into the tourney. My birth city of South Bend has Notre Dame. And I'm rooting for my "local" schools-- Purdue, Butler, and Indiana State. Butler was runner-up last year (to Duke).

Otherwise, I really don't give a rat's behind who wins. It's all entertainment. How about you?

Re Big Bang, the CBS programming is okay through Wednesday and they're back into basketball again Thursday and Friday so that's 2 wks straight without Big Bang.

I know, bummer. I'll survive. As long as it doesn't affect the Food Channel, esp. "Chopped"!

Ed's not much for watching sports. I got into sports watching with Jay in my first marriage. Watched college basketball when Bill Bradley was playing. That was a time. Later was NY Knicks fan and was in the Garden when the Knicks beat Baltimore for the pennant. The roof nearly came off in the crowd roar. And, of course, I was a Mets fan when they won the World Series in the 60s. I can still name all the players and their numbers and positions on that team. The only time I ever watched football was when the Jets beat Miami with Joe Namath. I think with me it's more about the personalities than the game, although I liked the fast pace of basketball. But all that is in the past. I have lost my interest. No team now grabs my imagination. I even wrote a letter to CBS telling them they should get back to regular programming on game nights because I wasn't the only one tuning out.

I wasn't too happy when CBS's Big Bang Theory was preempted by basketball. Otherwise, I seldom watch CBS (or any other big network).

Basketball is one of the sports I must plead total ignorance about.

Nothing wrong with that. I don't much like opera either!

the only game that I watched is The Celtics.
Have no interest in March Madness.
I am ready for baseball.
Good luck who ever win.
The rest of the news there.Charlie Sheen is all set for the rest of his life.
With the rerun and his show on the road he will not have any problem with his lifestyle.Let him be and enjoyed.Who cares what he does?why do people pay so much attention to him. What About Me.
Line from "Dream Girl"

We all have our preferences. Who's to say what's right or wrong? Enjoy your own life, right?

Like baseball, I wait for the end of the basketball tournaments when there are just a few teams left and then maybe start enough attention to pick a favorite. We'll take a look at the sports books to see who's favored as it progresses and let you know how your home teams are favored.

No sense in wearing ones self out. I don't actually just sit there, watching games. I'm doing things-in and out, read, etc. But the TV is turned on so I can keep tabs.

Who watches basketball? Not me!

It must be the "Hoosier Hysteria" in me. Indiana is noted for its basketball. Perhaps if I moved....

Basket ball is faster than football. That is why I prefer it.

Except for all the TV timeouts! In those last minutes of a close game, I could plant my garden!

Teal's comments: NCwhat? I'm not watching any more newscasts dwelling on Japan's disaster. If there's a cloud coming, I'm sure I'll hear about it. I hope Charlie's ex bosses come to their sense and re-hire him. They are losing a cash cow. Meanwhile, I think it's stupid to fire someone for his private views. He showed up, he did the show really well, and that should be that.

I, too, have used up all my mourning feelings on Japan. I gave Red Cross $50, so I'm guilt free. Life goes on. I quit watching Two and a Half Men for a variety of reasons. Ed doesn't watch basketball?

I'll be watching! The NCAA tourney is lots of fun.
I have my favorites: Duke, Kansas and Pitt. Side bets, anyone?
comment by marta on Mar 17, 2011 6:05 AM ()
Duke looks impressive, I must say. I seldom bet on anything I can't control, so no taker here!
