News of the Day

Hello, fellow bloggers. Just a little update on what's going on around Rossville, Indiana, pop. 1500+.

First, I played my usual 18 holes of golf (73 and won in league play). The fairways are dry and the ball rolls a long way. Any rain has gone right around my neck of the woods.

Today, I finished washing all the windows I'm going to wash. Plus I got my truck washed and waxed! Except for a few dents and dings (from hauling firewood), my 6 yr old Dakota looks like new.

Following cleaning my truck, I jogged 3.5 miles. My sister thinks I'm being compulsive. She says, "Haven't you done enough for today?" But it was cool and cloudy, and I still need to get in shape for my Aug. 28 5k run (in Rossville). Walking 18 holes of golf just doesn't cut it. I felt fine.

Speaking of my sister (the one that lives with me), she had a good week conducting a music camp for youngsters back in Virginia. She's leaving in the morning for Wash (St.) to see her son and new grandson. For some odd reason, her plane goes from Indy to Charlotte NC before going to Seattle! Go figure. She'll be visiting for 9 days.

Then there's my ear problem. Good news is- it's better. Bad news is -it's only 50% (est) improved. I still feel like I have Lake Michigan sloshing around in there. Three more days of amox., then we'll see. At least I can hear again.

Haven't had any raccoons lately (I probably just jinxed myself) in the sweet corn. But I've got some major critter (s) in my garage. He's dug holes under the pole barn structure to get in and has rummaged around messing things up. What is it? Rat? I've set a trap and put out varmint poison. No takers yet. Hmmm.

And one last thing: my back yard still qualifies for federal aid to get it cleaned up. The septic man says he'll return, but when? In the meantime, I'm hanging on to the $1500 due him.
So there's all the news fit to be printed. Thought you'd like to know! (roll eyes)

Often I have had friends try to slow me down and one asks me "why????" when she has visited and seen my exercise routine. She says I'm compulsive. I say I'm healthy. Anyway, when I don't exercise I get sluggish. That's far worse. So ignore our sis. Did you ever mention her name?

Barbara is her name. She really can't talk--she walks 3 miles upon arising, and is quite active all day long. But you're right. Exercise makes me feel better. Besides, I don't feel as guilty when I eat that apple pie I made.

When I finish watering and sweeping my back yard(it is concrete except for
planting pockets) I feel that I have done enough and am ready to go inside.
How do you handle the heat?
comment by elderjane on July 22, 2010 7:10 AM ()
I handle the heat by thinking of winters! I hate the cold. My body doesn't like cold, dry air, but it seems to do rather nicely in the heat. Don't ask me why.

That's my credo, Fredo! (I like the way that sounds--credo, Fredo.) Life IS short, and I plan to make the most out of it. I also plan to make it not so short--like 100 years!

"Haven't you done enough for today?" I say that to DH. If I didn't tell him he was doing too much he might start to think I don't do enough.

I think my sister feels thataway. With her gone for 10 days, I can do what I want to!

I didn't really get started exercising until I was 45--but I always kept in shape. It's nothing but self-motivation, and perhaps a little stupidity!

The ear thing reminds me of the month I had the cotton from a Q-tip stuck in my ear. I was too embarrassed to go to the doctor or get help with it, 'sloshing around' describes the sensation pretty well. Finally, I just stuck some tweezers in there and pulled it out on my own.
comment by troutbend on July 20, 2010 5:05 PM ()
That's how I got into this mess in the first place. Luckily, I didn't lose the cotton, but the damage was done. Grrr.

I'm with your sister! You are compulsive. I got worn out just reading your post.

If I was really compulsive, I wouldn't be sitting here. Call me "active"!
