Neighbors Moving

My neighbors of the past 25 years informed me last night that someone bought their house (finally, after 2 years of trying), and that they'll be moving out in one month. I'm saddened.

By neighbors, I mean they live about a quarter of a mile down the road. But here in rural Indiana, one knows everybody within several miles. In the 35 years I've lived here, I'd estimate 80% of my "neighbors" have come and gone. I'm not sure why the turnover. It couldn't be me, surely!

Anyway, Curtis and Cheryl and been terrific neighbors and friends. Curt and I have assisted one another on various projects. Cheryl has provided me with cookies and breads and other desserts. They've had free range with my garden veggies.

But, life moves on. I'm staying put. I dread the day I'll have to move, if ever I must. As long as my health holds out, I'm here to death. I'm sure I'll be meeting more new neighbors in the coming years.

Change is good (yeah, not always). I'm amazed at the people who move frequently - so much time and money to move!

Not to mention the hassle. My neighbors are going from a farm house, with barn, to an apartment! Curtis said I could have his lawn roller. He won't be using it anymore!

In our little cul de sac, the only people I know and like are selling and moving back to Ohio/Kentucky. And they have been reclusive, anyway, of late, so it's not like my daily routine will suffer. But this is an accessible community and I am meeting new people all the time during my walks. Some of them become part of my social circle. You love your place and travel a lot. Maybe your new neighbors will be good people. Hope for the best.

As long as they don't have barking or biting dogs.

I think on my street there are only a half dozen of 'original' occupants and the neighborhood is less than 15 years old.

The last I heard, a "family" moves every 5 years on the average. Guess we have ants in our pants, or the grass is always greener...

That is a long time. But at least they were pleasant. Not people you've been waiting to get rid of for 25 years... Hopefully the new crew will be just as friendly.

Young couple I hear. Of course, at my age, they all are!

As much as we dislike the idea life does move on..it does. I look back at my life and see the changes that have occured (good and bad) and maybe without those changes I would not have evolved into who I am now, whether that is good or bad.

Nice to hear from you, Tim. Yeah, change is inevitable. I go with the flow.
