No Need for the Ac

Let's try this post again. My first attempt was "lost"--later found on another site.

I'm writing about the fact that I haven't had to turn on my central air condition(ing?)all summer. For one reason, it's been a relatively cool year, only one day at 90. Heck, even my truck AC has been inactive.

But the main reason is my old farm house is surrounded by shade trees. Plus I've learned to keep the windows closed except for the basement and third floor "attic". Hot air escapes, drawing up the cool air from below. I can feel the breeze throughout the house.

I don't think the indoor temperature has been above 75. Humidity is manageable when it's that cool.

Now if only the house would stay warm in the winter. I just had 100 gallons of propane delivered at nearly $4 per! Gotta get that chain saw out.

I have to convert the temperatures for myself! I know -40c is -40f, 32f is 0c, and anything over 80f is HOT.

I have a water cooler in my window. It is great for this high dessert heat. Keeps me from having a dry sore throat or nose. I sure seems that it is hotter in our area than when I was growing up here as a child. And the last few years, the summer air has been full of smoke from forest fires.... mostly out of Northern California. I had cleaner air in Los Angeles.

I wish it was cool like that here...but no such luck...90 plus temps and humidity that could take your breath away...welcome to the south..

I am always amazed at these McMansions that are built on 1/2 acre lots. The first thing the developers do is knock down every tree in sight. When the yuppies buy these places, they are amazed how hot they are in the summer and how cold they are in the winter! Don't these folks realize that shade is good for cooling, trees are GREAT wind-breakers which can add to housing heat in the winter time, and trees also make the air cleaner to breathe? (Then again, these folks never go outside, nor do they ever open their windows. So whay would they care about clean air?)

First of all... your article here ended up there? Now, they're stealing posts from here??? Secondly we've had our air conditioning on ALL summer! Even through the earthquake. It's been HOT here. The HO assoc cut down all our trees! Air goes on automatically in the car. If it didn't, I'd die. You remember how hot the insides of a car get? (Why does Firefox act so differently from IE I wonder?)

Ah, the advantage to living in the north, the summers aren't too hot. No need for a/c here. It doesn't often get hotter than 30c (86f?), and the normal is around 24c (75f).

I'm with dragonfly on this one. Our A/C has developed a leak and
for the 3rd time in six months we have to get the A/C guy to come
and put in more freon and find the leak, and maybe we need a new
handler. Meanwhile, it is early morning and the indoor temp is 84.
And humid. I have the fans going but it's not enough. Sticky, sticky.

I don't use my air conditioner, just a fan when need arises, but the weather just now is just super. Should be a beautiful week, too! Hope you enjoy it!

We go w/o A/C too except for the room A/C I put in my daughter's room due to her low tolerance for heat. With the breeze, shade from juniper trees, & good insulation, we're comfortable. On the hottest days, the only time it gets too hot inside is mid to late afternoon and I just turn on a few fans.

Lucky man...it wouldn't work in l05 degree temps.

Oh for heaven's sake. So now we have to make the comments here that we made over there?

I prefer natural air circulating throughout the house to AC, but here in Florida, that is out of the question.
