In my ever lasting (and often futile) attempt to live a healthy life, I did some major grocery shopping at a "natural foods" food market (Sorry for the redundancy.) yesterday. The place is called Nature's Pharm (how cute).
I love it there. I bought things like coconut oil (for cooking), real chickpeas (not canned), Veganaise (not mayo), healthy cereal, flax seeds, quinoa, whole wheat flour, and stevia (as a sugar substitute). Oh yes, and whey powder, which I mix with water for my cereal (milk subs.).
Even with a 15% senior discount, I spent $82. Whew! But these items should make me a better person, ho ho.
But not so fast. THEN, I drove to Aldi's. While much cheaper, it is less healthy food. I just couldn't make myself spend $4 on eggs, when I can get them for $1.49 per dozen. Shhh--don't tell my son-in-law.
Speaking of my SIL, Nature's Pharm buys produce from him to sell in their market. I saw stuff with his Tranquil Ridge logo (to be changed to Silverthorn Farms). Pretty awesome.
So for supper last night, I made Asian kale stew. Cooked onions and garlic and sesame seeds in my new coconut oil, added my own tomatoes and kale, tossed in chickpeas, soy sauce, peanut butter, and hot sauce (plus salt and pepper), and laid it all on cooked quinoa. Delicious--and healthy!
