Next Two Months

Good Saturday morning, November 10th.
I played golf yesterday with my preacher friend, Ed. We talk a lot in the 3 hours of walking the golf course.
He asked me what I'd like to accomplish the next two months (Nov/Dec).
Hmm, I thought. He has a job. I'm retired. What ARE my plans, goals, objectives now that golf and garden season is over? Double hmmm.

While I do have a "winter routine", there's certainly nothing jaw dropping about what I'll be doing. I'm not going anywhere (until Feb.). It's more like what I won't be doing than what I will be doing.

I'm an "anticipatory" guy. I like to plan ahead, which makes me more excited about doing something. Like my brick driveway project--it was hard work, but I eagerly anticipated its conclusion and outcome.

So, as boring as it sounds, I look forward to more reading, playing the piano (arthritis notwithstanding), cracking walnuts, and exercising. I'm one of the few people I know that actually enjoys exercising--in my case, walking/running, boxing, lifting weights. The reasons beg for a follow-up post (but I'll spare you).

I don't have wood-working hobbies, or cross stitching. And I can only bake or cook so much food. I don't watch TV or movies. I have firewood to cut, split, haul, and burn. But that doesn't take up too much time. The house is kept clean and tidy. Perhaps I'll spend more time on the computer, but doing what? Genealogy? Research? Writing? With no newspaper anymore, I'll have to get my news from the internet.

Whatever I wind up doing, somehow each day passes into the next. I'm happy to wake up each morning, refreshed and eager to do the "same ol', same ol'". Thanks, Ed, for making me think about it.
Now, what do you plan to do?

I wouldn't know!

Retirement=Freedom. Who plans?? Beyond a general "to do list," I just don't worry about it. Of course, you are much more industrious than I am, Randy.

I'm of the opinion that those folks who think they're old give up on being active. Then they DO become old. I refuse to go down that path.

HAve you heard of ancestry.com? It's a fun way to research your family. Maybe that could be your goal, to find some long lost relatives? Or knowing you, you probably already know them all.

I know all the genealogy websites and have used them extensively. I'm just stuck on a couple of links to my past. Frustrating.

You are doing exactly the same thing I am doing in my retirement: Any dam thing I want.

Ain't retirement great?!!!!!!! Let the good times roll.

"Don't tell Dottie..."??? You are too funny!

Funny thing--I actually wrote down the website address! But I do that a lot, then never go there. Another one of my quirks (but not to me)!

What is their to plan. You are taking the fun out of it.Who plan are you serious?
l am busy most of the time and do not have to plan.Every day I wake up and say okay, what is the plan today?

Mostly, I do the same, although I usually think about "tomorrow" the day before. That's why his question made me think. What? Me worry?

I enjoy exercising. I go to my fitness center 6 mornings a week. I recently took up tai chi. That is the one you see with old Chinese people moving slowly in a park. I found out just how bad my balance is.

The only tai chi I do is when I stand on one leg to towel off the other! I could never see that form of "exercise" as a method to lose weight or "get in shape". But, it is popular. Enjoy!!

I went to Dottie's link and downloaded the player... looks like rocket science. I hope I know what I'm doing. AVAST is up-to-date just in case.

I find winter to be the most boring time of year since I prefer doing outside things and skiing just isn't one of them That would be good--to have something like that to look forward to. Wood is all cut which is a relief and all the outside stuff is finished so I can work on promoting 4C Camp for Adults and, well, who knows...

I hear you. And don't tell Dottie, but I'll never check out her website! Just not interested. Stay warm this winter. I'm cutting wood today!

I'm surprised your preacher friend didn't call you to some service calling. Sounds like you may have some time to spare. As for me, progress on the house, keeping up with family needs. That about sums it up. Doesn't require a plan cuz it doesn't change much.

If opposites attract, then that explains why I'm friends with the preacher man! Religion and politics--polar opposites. One thing I need to do in my house is wash the wallpapered walls in the dining room. Ugh.

Here is a treat for you: https://www.yourtvseri.es/
You can watch Newsroom (Teal is right- the show is riveting- but it is an HBO production) and many other shows. I watch via the VK viewers available on the site because I don't have to download other programs to use it. It is where I go to watch Game of Thrones, Newsroom and Downton Abbey. Watching good shows and movies is as valuable as reading a good book or listening to good music. Movie-making involves a variety of art forms- screenwriting, choreography, costume and set design to name just a few- that are no less worthy than painting or music.

Thank you for posting this!! I LOVE the show The Big C, and was able to use that site to watch all of season 3!

Thanks for the tip--that is, IF I wish to watch TV. I'm quite selective, despite all the "art" you mention. I'm weird thataway.

I don't plan. Always have been a will o'the wisp. Re. TV, if you have one, make a date with yourself to watch just one TV drama -- The Newsroom. I guarantee you will find it fascinating. The new season starts very soon -- Sunday nights, 9 p.m. or so.
comment by tealstar on Nov 10, 2012 6:37 AM ()
Besides, I don't get HBO.

If the Sunday night football game is a dud, I'll tune it in. Otherwise, I never watch "dramas". Too intense for me. But thanks for the tip.
