Good Saturday morning, November 10th.
I played golf yesterday with my preacher friend, Ed. We talk a lot in the 3 hours of walking the golf course.
He asked me what I'd like to accomplish the next two months (Nov/Dec).
Hmm, I thought. He has a job. I'm retired. What ARE my plans, goals, objectives now that golf and garden season is over? Double hmmm.
While I do have a "winter routine", there's certainly nothing jaw dropping about what I'll be doing. I'm not going anywhere (until Feb.). It's more like what I won't be doing than what I will be doing.
I'm an "anticipatory" guy. I like to plan ahead, which makes me more excited about doing something. Like my brick driveway project--it was hard work, but I eagerly anticipated its conclusion and outcome.
So, as boring as it sounds, I look forward to more reading, playing the piano (arthritis notwithstanding), cracking walnuts, and exercising. I'm one of the few people I know that actually enjoys exercising--in my case, walking/running, boxing, lifting weights. The reasons beg for a follow-up post (but I'll spare you).
I don't have wood-working hobbies, or cross stitching. And I can only bake or cook so much food. I don't watch TV or movies. I have firewood to cut, split, haul, and burn. But that doesn't take up too much time. The house is kept clean and tidy. Perhaps I'll spend more time on the computer, but doing what? Genealogy? Research? Writing? With no newspaper anymore, I'll have to get my news from the internet.
Whatever I wind up doing, somehow each day passes into the next. I'm happy to wake up each morning, refreshed and eager to do the "same ol', same ol'". Thanks, Ed, for making me think about it.
Now, what do you plan to do?
