Mix and Match

No, not referring to the green and red shorts and shirt I'm now wearing. This is more of a "this and that" post.

First off, we finally got some rain this past week--enough to save my garden. Green beans are producing for the initial time. I planted my Fall spinach and peas with fingers crossed.
And, it's cooled off considerably. The electric fence around my sweet corn has fended off the raccoons. Unfortunately, most of the corn is miniature looking. Oh yes, the tomatoes are fabulous!

Just watched the end of the Olympic Marathon. I'm not sure whether it makes me want to get out and run or makes me tired. The 10m platform diving winner went to a graduate of nearby Purdue. And if I never see another volleyball match again, it won't upset me. Thanks NBC for that hours worth of British history during WWll prior to the regular Olympic coverage Sat. night. Interesting.

Shifting gears: Paul Ryan? Better than Sarah Palin, that's all I can say. He and Mitt remind me of a couple of robotic manikins!

Is it any wonder Americans have such bad grammar? "America's got talent"? (TV show) What kind of English is that? America has got? How about just "America has talent"?

Finally, from my morning's newspaper, does this make sense?
In a health care survey (U.S), "nearly half of construction and mining workers had not visited a dentist in the past year, and 31.5% of transportation employees had high blood pressure. Clerical, office and service workers reported some of the best health, but about 30 percent said they did not feel safe walking at night." Unquote. Say what? Apples and oranges comparison me thinks.

Thanks for dropping by.

Funny post! I'm killing myself trying to keep up with my green beans! Eating them everyday, sometimes lunch & dinner, and I've canned 14 pints and have tons cooked in the fridge and I think they need picking again... will be giving some away very soon! I'm actually used to having hail destroy the garden, and since it has yet to happen... holy crow do I have a lot of vegies to eat!

Hi. I freeze green beans, but I hate eating them afterwards. Mushy and bad tasting. I've dehydrated lots of tomatoes. Those I like. Nice to hear from you.

Romney and Ryan must use the same manicurists, hair stylists, wardrobe assistants, etc. Are we that hooked on image?

Re: your small corn... at least you have corn. It did not all burn up.

The 60 Minutes interview with both of them made me want to puke. When asked about releasing tax returns, Ryan said "that's not the issue. It's the economy....". Evasive.

Lie and lay, "have went", etc., etc. The list is indefinite!

That is an interesting quote from your paper! Kind of goes with the title of your post.

Yes, I didn't think of that. Hope all is well back "East"!

The 's at the end of America is the contraction for has. I don't see anything wrong with it.
comment by nittineedles on Aug 12, 2012 9:08 AM ()
"Has got" is the offender. No "got" necessary, but often included. If, however, one says "We have gotten used to it", that's okay. Picky, picky (me)!

I'm not perfect, for certain. But compared to most Hoosiers, I'm a genius!
