JFK and Bho

I haven't read any posts on Rock Center's (NBC) "expose" on John F. Kennedy the other night. Did anybody happen to see it? Wow!
There have been many stories implicating Kennedy with sexual rendevous, but this was "beyond the pale". Evidently, a 19 year old intern was involved with the president for 18 months as a mistress of sorts. Now 66, Mimi Alford has come forward with her story, first in book form, now in interviews. It's a burden she's carried all these years, and to set herself free--not to mention to set the record straight--she's exposed JFK for what he really was, a sex-starved womanizer. Very credible story. I'm sure more will come out (as happened with Bill Clinton and Herman Cain, et. al.)

No sex stories on our current president, but I did finish an interesting "expose" of a different kind in Ron Suskind's book, "Confidence Men". The book chronicles the first two years of Obama's presidency, concentrating on the real men in power, his aids (sounds like the Nixon years).

Obama made some huge mistakes in judgment trying to form a cabinet surrounded with advisors that were suppose to be experts in their fields. The problem with that was that there were mostly major egotists, unwilling to listen or bend, trying to influence the president. Who? Rahm Emanuel (a real horse's patoot), Larry Summers (ditto), Tim Geithner (with the "personality" of a shoplifter), and others.

Major decisions needed to be made regarding the economy (from jobs to Wall Street to banks to the automobile industry all collapsing)--immediately! Obama listened to all sides, but that's about all he did. With differing opinions, the whole scenario was totally dysfunctional. The president couldn't make decisive decisions--waffled, wavered, procrastinated, and hesitated to act. This is all while he had a majority of Democrats in Congress.

Obama got too focused on health care, determined to see it implemented, and set aside more pressing issues relating to reviving the economy. Bitter disputes raged around him--between men and women, policy and politics. He would simply say, "keep working on it", leaving decisions to others.

It's little wonder his popularity dropped ("nice guy, but...").
It's little wonder Republicans easily took over the House in midterm elections. Backers of the president were screaming for him to grow a spine--do something, anything! I know I was among them. I exhorted the names of Teddy Roosevelt and Harry Truman. We want men of action, not words.

Things have changed, somewhat. New, less egotistical people surround the president. He's a little more forceful and assured. Yes, in the nearly three and a half years, many good things have happened. But it's like making one of two free throws in basketball. You need to make them BOTH! One is not enough.
Hopefully, four more years will give our president the opportunity to make that other free throw.

Just another note in the timeline of the Kennedys treating women with complete, utter disrepect. Maybe Caroline should have run for her uncle's Senate seat after all -- taken something back for herself, her mother, many others.

Perhaps, although I can't see her as a political figure.

I saw the interview on The View and also the whole hour interview on NBC Wednesday night with Meredith Veiera. Mimi Alford (?) seems very credible. What a secret to carry for 50 years. Her first husband told her to never speak about it. I would be more shocked if we had not already known what a womanizer JFK was. Still, this was a young girl. I kept thinking what I was like when I was that age. I was very naive.

You are a little bit younger than I. Think back to the time then though. No birth control pill yet. It was still on the horizon. The sexual revolution had not started. The feminist movement had not started. No one had heard the term sexual harassment. The "little woman" was still at home. Everything was different than now. And she was just nineteen; he was forty-five. My grandson is nineteen and his friends come over a lot. I can't imagine any of the girls who come here being in that position. First of all, they would think-45? Eww! I am beginning to think that JFK was a pervert.

It's difficult for me, as a man, to understand Ms. Alford's thinking at the time. "Spellbound" comes to mind. I CAN understand JFK. I've had those thoughts. And if the opportunity is there, the temptation becomes overwhelming-nearly uncontrollable. Animal instinct--think a bull in a herd of cows. They are insatiable!

And I hooooope Obama doesn't have any sex scandals! That would really kill me. I dunno why but I just see him as pure in that way, esp since I love Michelle!

I agree with you. I would be crushed!

I sometimes think the first four years (and possibly only) are semi useless since it takes soooo long for anything important or big to get thru, which can be seen as good or bad... but that said, things don't usually change in 4 years...

Double reply: Yeah, I certainly don't see Obama as a womanizer. Family man through and through (although I thought that about JFK). The pres has gotten a lot accomplished, however, in 3 plus years. Gotta give him credit. Fingers crossed he'll get more done in the next term.

I could not care less, unless, of course, such news interrupted my baseball game. LOL

JFK was Catholic, you remember. Gingrich, too. Mormons and Catholics. What we need is an atheist!

The sexual habits of our world leaders are of no concern to me so long as they work in their positions to enhance the lives of their constituents. Obama's mistakes in his first two years as President, was to believe that his ideals would prevail. He is tougher now. There are analysts who believe that he always knew where he was going and was biding his time. It would seem so, given is successes of late. In any case, he is the only game in town. I am listening to Santorum now and reaching for my anti-nausea meds. He is convinced he is on a roll and will achieve the nomination. Let's hope he does. He is so totally not a national figure and will learn the hard way.

Sometimes I'm not sure if Obama is wishy-washy or simply flexible. Case in point: this recent birth control flap. According to the book, what he is is very intelligent and a good listener. No GW Bush, for sure! I'm ignoring all the republican cretins.
