I haven't read any posts on Rock Center's (NBC) "expose" on John F. Kennedy the other night. Did anybody happen to see it? Wow!
There have been many stories implicating Kennedy with sexual rendevous, but this was "beyond the pale". Evidently, a 19 year old intern was involved with the president for 18 months as a mistress of sorts. Now 66, Mimi Alford has come forward with her story, first in book form, now in interviews. It's a burden she's carried all these years, and to set herself free--not to mention to set the record straight--she's exposed JFK for what he really was, a sex-starved womanizer. Very credible story. I'm sure more will come out (as happened with Bill Clinton and Herman Cain, et. al.)
No sex stories on our current president, but I did finish an interesting "expose" of a different kind in Ron Suskind's book, "Confidence Men". The book chronicles the first two years of Obama's presidency, concentrating on the real men in power, his aids (sounds like the Nixon years).
Obama made some huge mistakes in judgment trying to form a cabinet surrounded with advisors that were suppose to be experts in their fields. The problem with that was that there were mostly major egotists, unwilling to listen or bend, trying to influence the president. Who? Rahm Emanuel (a real horse's patoot), Larry Summers (ditto), Tim Geithner (with the "personality" of a shoplifter), and others.
Major decisions needed to be made regarding the economy (from jobs to Wall Street to banks to the automobile industry all collapsing)--immediately! Obama listened to all sides, but that's about all he did. With differing opinions, the whole scenario was totally dysfunctional. The president couldn't make decisive decisions--waffled, wavered, procrastinated, and hesitated to act. This is all while he had a majority of Democrats in Congress.
Obama got too focused on health care, determined to see it implemented, and set aside more pressing issues relating to reviving the economy. Bitter disputes raged around him--between men and women, policy and politics. He would simply say, "keep working on it", leaving decisions to others.
It's little wonder his popularity dropped ("nice guy, but...").
It's little wonder Republicans easily took over the House in midterm elections. Backers of the president were screaming for him to grow a spine--do something, anything! I know I was among them. I exhorted the names of Teddy Roosevelt and Harry Truman. We want men of action, not words.
Things have changed, somewhat. New, less egotistical people surround the president. He's a little more forceful and assured. Yes, in the nearly three and a half years, many good things have happened. But it's like making one of two free throws in basketball. You need to make them BOTH! One is not enough.
Hopefully, four more years will give our president the opportunity to make that other free throw.
