Headlines

I'm a little tardy on my responses and post reading. I had to babysit all day yesterday (grandson). It was a treat.
My ex (and daughter's mother) has removed herself from the temporary shelter, so I'm free to visit again w/o her presence.

I see today is the 30th anniversary of Pres. Reagan's assassination attempt. Goodness--was I only 38?!!! Anyway, a little progress--not much, thanks to the NRA and Republicans--has been made with regard to "gun control". The Gabby Giffords shootings is evidence of that. Oh that "right to bear arms" Bill of Rights insertion! If only they knew. FYI, I'm a fence sitter on this issue, one of the few, like abortion, I can support either side.

Indiana Democrats are back home, after 5 weeks of living in an Illinois motel. Wisconsin got all the headlines, but we had our battles, too. Again, rather than dealing with major issues, we're debating abortion rights, private school vouchers, smoking bans, etc. Not that they aren't important, but we have an economy and budget crisis that needs attention.

I'm reading a (another) Theodore Roosevelt book (about him, not by him). Although he could be a pompous ass, I really like him. He was a Republican in name only. Party philosophies have changed over the years. This book concerns his post presidential years, 1910-1920. Should he, or shouldn't he return to politics and run for president again? Lots of good stuff. I just like his "bully pulpit".
I think Obama should read TR. By the way, I liked the president's speech regarding Libya. I'm still on the fence with this issue, also.

That's it for this time around. Still "winter"--cloudy and cold and just plain "depressing". But I'm cheerful and positive! Utah awaits!

We have springtime in the South right now, Randy. My wisteria has been blooming for about two weeks and is now fading. As I'm sure you know, the practice rounds start Monday and the Masters starts this coming Thursday. When the sun comes out this weekend, the flowers should explode into glorious colors and the course will be gorgeous as always. The last time I got practice round tickets was 2001..I keep wondering when my name will roll around again. It's been a long time.

We only have tiny buds showing. It refuses to warm up. I'll miss watching the Masters because I'll be on the road to Utah. Just as well. I don't enjoy watching golf on TV (despite being an avid golfer), but I find myself tuning in anyway. It would be fun to see it in person. Perhaps your "number" will pop up one of these days.

I agree with Teal on a woman's right to abortion. Men are not burdened
with carrying a fetus for nine months or horrible labor pains. I am getting very disillusioned with President Obama but there is not an alternative. What made me so angry was doling out money to his supporters
in the name of job creation. I thought we had a good man. As for
starting another conflict I am dead set against it.

You can't argue with a woman! I'm not touching the subject of abortion. Sorry I even mentioned it. It appears our nations' leaders are waffling on what to do about Libya.

P.S. If men had the babies, there would be no stop abortion movement.

But Randy, you are not the target of these Rightist Efforts -- it's women and their choices. And if you were truly poor and baby no. 10 was coming your way, would you feel the same?

Stop the fence business. Re. abortion, reasonable people do not support unlimited access for lazy people who do not take preventive measures. But what is inexcusable is for the Right Wing Moral Police to deny birth control information to the disadvantaged who do not have the resources to find it for themselves. In other words, poor women, we don't want you to have sex.

Oh, I'm fully aware of that side of the argument. My hangup is the fact that I'm a father of 4 wonderful children, the thought of any of them being aborted saddens me.

Glad you enjoyed your day with your grandson!
I see that Jim Brady visited President Obama today, on the anniversary of Reagan's and his shooting. Still working tirelessly for gun safety and control, but after decades and decades, the pro-gun madness seems worse than ever. Do we really need unfettered access to high-powered assault weapons???

Sad to say, the Ohio legislature passed the anti-union SB5 tonight. Proud of my state representatives in the House and Senate who both voted NO.

Thereby guaranteeing them to a single term in office. Just wait.

The "Midwest" has gone "south". We've become a bunch of fundamentalist holier-than-thou right-wingers. Wacko times are here. I suppose we need to be patient. Things will eventually change for the better.

No wonder you had to get a colonoscopy--sitting on the fence will cause that (I thought it was funny!)

No. Perhaps a. More of a.

I don't think the Republican Party took a nosedive until the mid 1930's, and then did not get ugly until the mid 1940's. In more recent years, I actually had hopes for them until Busch (GW) hit the White House, and Republicans who voted against anything GW supported or against the party were regarded as traitorss to the party. That set in motion the most acrimonious partisanship we have ever witnessed in Congress.

I just get angry and upset every time I think about politics. But I don't want to ignore the subject, either. Deep breaths, Randy--and Dottie!

As they say, "Hope springs eternal". Patience, my dear.

Maybe we need another "Bull Moose" party.
