Bonus Time!

The "news of the day" has to be the weather! We're nearly 30 degrees above average, and the long range forecast is for two more weeks of the same!

So.....

Out of the closet comes the golf clubs. Hurray!

I've been cleaning up the garden and spreading my horse manure. Some veggies survived the winter--kale, collards, arugula, even Brussels sprouts. So I'm trying to eat them up. And, of course, I still have potatoes, onions, beets, carrots, squash, and garlic stored away in the basement.
Still too early to plant anything, anyway.

A couple of years ago, strong winds (if not a mini tornado) blew down half an old one room school house 3 quarters of a mile down the road. I've determined no one is going to salvage the bricks, so I'm going to gather my second load today. Most are broken from the fall, but after the mortar is knocked off, the good ones will be used to extend my brick driveway.
When I first moved here 35 years ago, I collected bricks and laid them down for a drive and sidewalk. I just ran out of them. It's tedious work, but I love the look. This will discourage me from wanting to leave my house any time soon!

Well, have a grand day. Get outdoors and enjoy this early Spring!

I love paved driveways. Good luck with all that. We paved our pool deck about two years ago. It extends the scope of the interior of the house too. Driveway is next, but pricey. Also we need new kitchen cabinets. All in good time. Enjoy your produce. You're a regular worker bee.

Today is Sunday & I can't believe how warm outside it is! We had severe rainstorms (thunder, lightning, hail etc.) a few days ago, keeping the sump pump busy until things dry out. It kind of sends one into "shock" though with the extreme temp changes.
Enjoyed reading about all the good stuff from your garden that you're still enjoying Randy. The word up here is that it's gonna be a dry summer. We'll see xxx

The sun is peeking up through a pine tree as I write this--directly East on this day before the Vernal Equinox! Hurray! I got the garden tilled and even planted some lettuce, kale, peas, spinach, and potatoes (today)! They should survive a cold snap.

A brick driveway? That sounds beautiful.

It is different, if nothing else. It's difficult to keep the surface even, however. It's "rolly".

So you are doing "Midnight Construction" now? (Local slang for what you are doing.) You are doing the farmer a favor. He would have to pay someone to take the bricks away. More glorious days ahead for us too. Maybe a little rain. The grass, which barely went brown, is greening up already.

Surprisingly, I haven't seen dandelions. But, never fear, they'll soon be here.

Cleaning the bricks is tedious. But removing 3" of limestone and leveling it all out is the hard part. Being a perfectionist doesn't help!

I love the look of brick walks and driveways but the ground around our house shifts a lot (mini earthquakes? buried dump? tree roots?) and we'd probably end up tripping over shifted bricks.
It's slushing here. Not quite rain but not quite snow. Tomorrow is forecast to warm up to 6C/43F and next week we are supposed to get THREE dry days in a row!

I don't think I'd like all the "gloomy" days you people have. And you're right about effect tree roots have on my brick driveway/walkway! Not to mention "settling". It's a constant project.

Wow you always amaze me with your activity. Good for you. Enjoy the weather! I know I am.

I come by it honestly-- well, genetically. My father has the brick driveway to end all brick driveways. And these were huge paving bricks--heavy dudes.

It's nothing like your broken wrist, but I had (have) a split in my thumb that hurts like hell when I swing. Crazy, but true. But it's the exercise that counts.

I steal them after midnight using my headlights. JK. The farmer that owns the school house lives directly across the road, but he hasn't come out. I think he's too fat and lazy to bother.
