Birds and Bees

No, I'm not referring to sex education. I once wrote about the lack of honeybees, but I'm here to tell you they're back in force. I have a Linden tree, commonly called a basswood, and the blossoms are very fragrant. Otherwise, it's a soft, messy tree with pea size "berries". Well, the bees love it, and they were noisily buzzing throughout while I picked red raspberries nearby. Perhaps there's hope.
I was also hoping I'd get bluebirds this year, and after cleaning out the bird box on a daily basis (sparrows), I have a nesting pair! In fact, I've seen 3, maybe 4, bluebirds coming and going. Polygamy? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for babies.

I'm exhausted in a good way right now, after walking 18 holes of golf, then cutting a truck load of firewood. I also did a few chores--watered outdoor plants, weeded, picked peas, lettuce and asparagus. Gotta go--company

What a great life you live! Good for you for enjoying it to the fullest! Good luck on your blue birds. May everything in your neck of the woods propagate.... bees, birds, veggies!

We just found bees making a hive inside the mouth of our cast iron garden frog. How strange. Your day sounds divine!

I need a shot of your energy drink. I haven't seen any local strawberries this year. The California ones are just not very good.

The bushes and other foliage on our property needs major pruning.
Falling leaves and such clutter our entryway. My ixora has fungus
and I have managed to spray it twice. Edward mowed the front
and had to take a nap. The back still needs a cut. One of our
large urns flanking the driveway gave up its flowers to another
fungus and I sprayed it too late. It's raining so I am not
watering. I am seriously thinking "landscape service". Unless you
want to come by and fix it. Free eats.

So glad to hear good news about the honeybees and your bluebirds. They couldn't pick a nicer spot than your place to make their home. Enjoy your evening!

Any chance of a photo of the bird box and bluebirds? I've no idea what they look like. Sounds great. golf courses are a worry though... to add a typically negative note; apparently one of the major causes of rainforest destruction and water pollution is the creation of new golfcourses for the millions of nouveau riche, and to keep them in pristine state requires a lot of herbicides and pesticides and fertilisers.

Bluebirds would be terrific...they're gorgeous little creatures. And boy, you've got more energy than I do.
