Allan Sherman

I never liked Allan Sherman. Jerms reminded me of him. His camp parody song was clever, that's about all. He was not funny to me (along with many other so-called comedians).

When I lived in southern California in 1972, I went to a taping of the Steve Allen talk show. It was the day of the early morning's Ventura earthquake that killed 67 people. The studio was virtually empty--everybody was scared of going out. But I had tickets, so I went.

Well, Allan Sherman was a guest. There was an aftershock during the show, and he went beserk! He acted like a chicken with its head cut off! Steve couldn't calm him down. It was embarrassing, and I disliked him even more.

The show was horrible and disappointing. I assume Sherman is dead. I'll google him.

I never thought much about him one way or the other. That kind of comedy
and slapstick turns me off. I like British humor myself. Jerry Lewis
type stuff is yukky.

I didn't like his personality. The earthquake fright must have killed him!

Wow! he died young! I think a lot of performers, and that includes motivational speakers and even some teachers, (not necc you - you're always 'you') can turn their personality on and off for when they are working at convincing us of something. They can be charming as heck while the center of attention, but take that away, and they are no better or worse than run-of-the-mill folks, maybe not someone we'd ever want to spend any time with.

Frankly, I never thought about him being a Jew. Perhaps this "Jewish personality" had something to do with my not liking him. No offense to Jews, mind you.

Now we all (the Jews that is) know Jews aren't afraid of ANYTHING!!!

Since I never liked him, I reckon I didn't pay much attention to his songs. I might remember some if I heard them again.

Even though his heyday was in "my" era, I don't remember him. I just Googled him and only his signature song, (Hello Muddah ...) was familiar. You disliked him because he was afraid? Have some sympathy. Yes, he's dead (1973).

Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah! I liked that but had to goggle him myself to know who he was.

He made a lot of money on that song. Didn't do him a lot of good.
