Wanna know what's cool???
Going along with my two teenagers decision to wait until the afternoon, just before they go their Dads for the next 6 days, to do their chores at my house.
For years, my kids have always gotten their chores done on the Friday or Saturday of their arrival to our home. Between my kids and their friends running in and out of here, eating day and night, and having the neighborhood use our guest bathroom as a public restroom, the freshly done chores and clean home were very short lived.
Yet, that's the way it was done.
In my opinion, the best way was to teach the kids to get their chores done right away. Then the work was not hanging over them to get finished. I didn't need to keep reminding them. And the kids would have their allowance early in their week with me in case they needed extra pocket money.
That argument worked well when the kids were younger. But somewhere along the way, my kids have grown up a little bit. They're not always flat broke when they come to my house as they've learned to save some of their money. They don't need Mamma's 'gentle' reminders to do their chores anymore. It's part of their life and routine at this house. In fact, they sometimes have to remind me to go to the bank so that I have the correct 'bills' in hand to pay them when their chores have been completed.
It's 4:11pm. The children just completed their weekly household responsibilities and have received their allowances. * Jake made an extra $1.00 for being super thorough in his scrubbing of the bathroom :)
The vacuuming is done.
The guest/kids bathroom is gleaming.
The kitchen floor has been mopped.
The dusting is done.
The trash cans have been emptied.
The kids have retreated up to their rooms to enjoy the last 45 minutes at my house to relax and prepare for the switching of the homes.
I'm looking at a spotless home.
And though I'll miss my kids while they are gone, my house is going to likely stay just as clean as it is right now until they return on Tuesday.
And that's COOL!
