Saturday Thoughts from the Front Porch

There is a slight chill in the air this morning, but soon the temperature will climb to the upper 80's. So before the temp gets too warm I thought I'd take the time to write this outside on the front porch. The news has been a mixed bag as of late, mixed as in bad..and not so bad(but not overly good). Citi Financial who has received more then their share of government bailout money has decided to reward their loyal customers by raising their percentages on their credit cards. I am not sure I see the fairness in that, for they did it across the board and not on an individual basis. If you are Joe Slacker and are always late with a payment or just don't pay I can see jacking up your rate(but then you run the risk of not getting any money at all). But what about the people that pay on time, and even pay a little extra above their monthly payment?? These are the people that are taking the shaft, not only are you on the hook for the bail out money..but now your being punished for have any type of credit card with Citi Financial. Chrysler, one of the car companies that did not take federal bail out money says that even though they are still losing money they are seeing some progress. Through plant closings and layoffs and other cost cutting initiatives they say they are starting to stem the tide of money lost. Locally here a former book keeper was charged with embezzling close to a million dollars from the roofing company that she worked at. She was fired this past January after it was discovered that she embezzled $4000, she was fired and made to pay the money back. Later upon further examination it was found that the amount she stole was closer to 1 million dollars. Then a local NY State Trooper was arrested and charged with petty larceny in connection with the theft of mulch from a local mulch business. This story is troubling because you have a good career going and now you've tossed it all away for a load of what??..dirt! But at least NBC news posts stories about people that have chosen to make a difference in these tough economic times. They are not trying to change the world, just trying to improve their little corner.
