The lion closed his eyes
And forever drifted off to sleep
He was no longer of this earth
His soul was now in the angels
keep.
He had served well
Now he had earned his rest
Perfect he was not
But he had done his best.
He had watched his brothers
Long ago depart
And with each passing
Left an empty space in his heart.
His brothers had passed
Each at an early age
And with each passing
History turned another page.
Until it was him
That stood all alone
The mantle of leadership
Was all his own.
He took that mantle
Did the best job he could
Assured and confident
Doing the job as he thought
his brothers would.
He soon received word
That his time would soon end
Instead of feeling sorry
He embraced family and friend.
Those final days
He spent by the sea
Still trying to help
Those less fortunate then he.
The end came on a Tuesday night
His eyes closed, his breathing was slow
His family held hands as he passed
For it was his time to go.
It time to say goodbye
To be in the angels keep
The lion closed his eyes
And silently went to sleep.
