Helping the Homeless

Coincutter did a blog about helping out a man carrying a sign about how he needed money. I've done this a couple of times myself, but I don't make it a habit. It's hard to tell who is down on their luck, or the person scamming you with a hard luck story. I use to have a job where I would come in contact with people such as these on a regular basis, and through the years realized some things. You can't help everyone, and most people are lazy and are just looking to score some easy money. Well I work hard for my money, and if my friends or family need help and I am in the position to I will help. But I can't see giving my hard earned cash to someone who is just going to spend it on either booze, smokes, or drugs, it makes no sense to me. I'd rather spend my money on buying someone a sandwich for someone who is hungry, chances are they will not take you up on the offer. I am not unsympathetic to a persons plight, but if you screwed your life up on your own why should I be expected to bail you out?? I know it'll be pointed out that this might not be exhibiting a "Christian attitude", well there is a fine line between the right thing to do and the smart thing to do. I just hope God gives me the wisdom to know the difference.
