The Lament of the Jobless

The man walked down the street
Coming close to looking like a slob
But he had no place to go
For last week he lost his job.
Prices are going up
The economy is going down
Each and every day it seems
We keep losing ground.
People losing their homes
Houses that won't sell
Some days it seems
We're at the doorstep of hell.
The man buys a coffee
At the convenience store
Goes to sit in the park
Nowhere else to go anymore.
We're facing hard times
As the the jobless rate doubles
This country has problems
Yes we have our troubles.
But we must take faith
We must take stock
And when the storms of despair
surround us
We must become a rock.
The man rises from his bench
As the sun starts to set
The only hope that he has
Is that this is as bad as it gets.
