The Honor of Duty (Pt 1)

How much time did they have left
Or the pain of separation would
they endure
Many questions, they could wait
Many things of which they were unsure.
Soon he'd be leaving
Duty called across the sea
Fighting for reasons that were unclear
to her
Going to a place she didn't want him
to be.
But he had made the decision
He had made up his mind
And yes it also meant
He had to leave her behind.
The choice that he had made
Did not come to him easily
As much as she tried to understand
The more confused she seemed to be.
It wasn't that he did not love her
No, that was not the story
And the last thing he wanted
Was to cause her pain and worry.
But it came as a calling to him
A debt to repay
To serve his country
And return to her one day.

Very topical poetry, Tim! So many have gone, and so many are waiting... to get back and to have someone come back. You capture it well...
