What's Been Happening

Since a week ago my life has been a blur, moments that I am finally able to sit down and write about. A week ago Friday my Mom called to tell me my Father had passed away, after 87 years he finally no longer had the will to go on. The first thing people want to know is "was he in poor health"? My Dad had battled a lot of ailments in the last few years, but he kept coming back..I believe the grim reaper was getting frustrated. Life kept throwing these roadblocks in his path and somehow he kept avoiding them, the man had a remarkable tenacity for living. What makes his life even more remarkable was that he came from a family of 9, of that 9 five never saw their 60th birthday, the other 2 were 65 & 71 when they passed. His parents were 66 & 71 when they passed. When he was 81 he quit smoking, after having the habit since he was 14. About a year later the doctors discovered a spot on his lung, so my Dad had about a 3rd of his lung removed. His first question when he was in recovery was not about his condition but it was when he could get something to eat. There was no gray area in my Dad's opinions, you knew where he stood at all times..which was a mixed blessing sometimes. My Dad was a simple yet complicated man, being his son could be difficult at times. I know I will miss him from time to time, I believe that will be a given. I will probably share more of this as the weeks pass and I feel I am able to do so.

87 sounds like forever, but it's still too short in some ways, and when they stay with us all those years it's harder to believe they finally left. Hugs to all of you.

'His first question when he was in recovery was not about his condition but it was when he could get something to eat.' A man after my own heart!

Sorry about your loss but it sounds like he lead a good and long life even with the ailments that come along after 70.

How is your Mom doing? Taking it? How is her health?

Tim, you know me--a one track mind--write a poem to him--it will help!

Mom is doing pretty good, going up there to see her tomorrow. My sister went back home yesterday, so last night was her first night on her own. I did call today and talked to her(mom)..she was getting paperwork issues lined up.
