Arlington Road

There was a scent of spring
On that cold, cloudy day
No words were spoken
Nothing left to say.
The wagon rolled slowly
As the coffin upon it rode
Making a hero's journey
Down Arlington Road.
Past the markers
Of hero's,one and all
White crosses in a row
Of those who answered the call.
Some fell in combat
Others just quietly died
But they served
And they served with pride.
Some remember
Others tend to forget
Those that gave their all
Without remorse or regret.
I write this in their honor
A small sincere thank you
For the journey they took
And the hardship they went through.
As the coffin is laid to rest
The sun through the clouds
has showed
Bringing to an end to another day
Traveled down Arlington Road.
