Politicians and the Hypocritical Standard

The other day I was watching the senate hearings, the one where they were grilling the CEO of AIG investment firm. I don't know how many people had this thought, but I thought I'd throw my two cents in. This CEO was being accused of playing fast and loose with the money his company received from the federal government, in the fashion of huge bonuses for upper management for basically running AIG right into the ground. It was a simple case of the "rich get richer and the poor..well they get screwed". As I was watching these Senators I was thinking to myself "what a bunch of self-serving hypocrites these people are". These are individuals who(mostly republicans)wouldn't even have passed this rescue package unless there was something in it for them. I feel that the some democrats got their share of the pie also, neatly packaged under the heading of earmarks.
Don't get me wrong if these companies that are receiving tax
payers money are using for purposes other then it was intended for then by all means call them on the carpet. But I also believe that our Senators and congressman should be held by the same standard, we as American tax payers have the right to make them accountable as our public servants.
