I read Grump's blog about breast cancer and tried to stop that tight feeling in my throat from becoming a cry.
You see...I would still have my Mom with me if it weren't for breast cancer. And the fact she was too stubborn, self-conscious, proud, whatever to have a mammogram. Until it was too late. She would never live to see two of her great grandchildren. She would not live to see a lot of things that would have made her happy. She died too young from a disease that steals women (and MEN) at all ages.
A couple of years ago I wrote a piece on another blog station. I want to post it today as a reminder that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I have a mammogram every April. It is like a birthday present I give myself. I want to stay around for a while. There are folks to aggrivate, places to see and life to live.
From a few years ago on another Blog, from a daughter's heart:
(With apologies to Mr. Bob Hope)Â

Thanks for the mammories...
the one on the left, the one on the right
placed in a vice and closed up real tight....
Oh thanks for the mammories!
They're called breasts, and boobs, and ta-tas and such
but we girls have to care for them so much...
So, thanks for the mammories!
A year's gone by and now here I am
time for the annual mamogram...
Oh thanks for the mammories!

October 28, 1999...so long, Mom. See ya later.
