I had to put my knitting aside for awhile but I am back at it now. Everything is going beautifully until I just reached round 15: I wonder about this part - ...yo, sl1, psso, yo, k8.

I think something must be missing here. If I sl1, what do I pass the slip stitch over? I have 45 stitches between marker at this point. I am trying to figure out what must be done to get down to the correct number of stitches to repeat round 1.

I think you've misread that round. The pattern actually states: yo, sl1, k2tog, psso, yo, k8
