All Sorts of Things

We had a busy day of volunteering yesterday. It was fun! We had someone come check out our house to see if we'd be a good fit for their rescue as a foster, and they immediately thought that this pup

Might work with us. We get to meet her tomorrow, she is currently "living" at a local vet. I was warned that the staff may cry if we decide she'd be a good fit for our house! I think she is adorable and have wanted a great dane for awhile, so... we are hopeful that this will work out. After the home visit we went to the shelter to pick up a pup to take to a local event. The pup we were supposed to take had someone interested in adopting him (yay!) so we took another pup, a catahoula leopard dog. Here is her pic:

Her name is Shalimar and she was a sweety pie. Hopefully someone at the event took note and will adopt her!

In other news, I had someone come in and test the air quality of the house since we have had mold issues in the past. Much to my chagrin the dude found mold in baby girls room closet. Sigh. So Ron is ripping out drywall today and treating the walls behind it in order to remedy the situation. I am soooooo tired of mold issues and this house! But hopefully this will be the last of it. Dare to dream. Now I am wondering if I need to have this guy back out to test the air again. Probably should but it's $400 for him to come test and not do anything about it. Not so fun.... BUT worthwhile for the peace of mind????

Well I am off to a friends house to watch a movie on how to take care of a baby. haha The three of us soon to be mom's are trying to learn all we can! Should be fun, we will be getting lunch as well.

Take care peeps, and have a great rest of the weekend!

Oh, heartworm positive!!! How sad. I hope you don't have to pay for the treatment - babies are very expensive! I'm sure you know the treatment usually works if it's not too advanced. How big is she? Is she a young puppy? Full grown? Details please. Bless you for taking her into your home. Sick dogs should never be in a kennel.

Well she's about 2-3 and she's a Great Dane so she's a big girl, but underweight. The rescue pays for treatment thank goodness! She wanted to play with the boys yesterday so I think the hard part will be keeping her quiet! also they are
Worried about her bloating... Which is one of my biggest fears!!!

What a wonderful life you have built with handyman, Ron! Best of luck with all the foster pups.

Ummmm yeah, he's learning to be handy, I will leave it at that.

All of us want to see the baby bump. I am familiar with the Catahoula
breed. A lot of farmers use them for herding cattle and they like to ride
in the back of pickups. They are super smart working dogs.

Shalimar was a doll, she was low key and fun. We enjoyed our time with her and certainly hope she's adopted soon!

Ron will be going with me to all the classes, the only one he didn't attend was breast feeding class, which I think is ok.

Yeah, we want to see the baby bump!!! LOL. I think if your husband switched out the drywall, you should be fine.

mold is nothing to play around with, so i am glad you are taking care of that! i already commented on your pic on facebook about the clever positioning of the dog to hide your baby bump! LET US SEE THE BABY BUMP! I am going to start a petition!

Great Danes are soooo laid back she'll be easy to care for. Glad you're getting rid of the mold now!

She is trying to play today with the boys, which is great for adjustment reasons, but she is heartworm positive so she's supposed to be quiet...

You look great! The dogs... ah... well, everybody needs a home!
comment by jjoohhnn on Jan 20, 2013 11:24 AM ()
Yes they do all need homes... We are trying to help!

Love the dogs! Having a Great Dane in the house would be along the lines of a miniature horse, but house trained. Good thing you are finding out about the mold and fixing it before the baby is born. Did the previous owners disclose mold problems before you bought the house? Many states have laws that it must be disclosed before the sale. You might be able to get them to pay for testing and remediation.

They didn't, but the first time we found it we couldn't do anything about it so we kinda gave up even though this is the third place in the basement that we've found it. HOPEFULLY Ron has remedied it and we are done with the mold issue.

When we had our first child Kristy my wife and I took classes at the hospital where we were going to have her, it was informational..but it was also nice to interact with other first-time parents. $400 is alot to have someone come out and not be able to remedy the problem..good thing Ron is so handy.

It makes me chuckle to think of Ron as handy... He's a smart man, but handy isn't what I'd say, although with all the stuff he's done around the house perhaps I need to change my thoughts on the matter.
