Now, as for the title of this post: If you have furkids, you'll identify with this. And even if you were already with your significant other when you got the furry companions, you'll understand how this works.
I had the boyz before Donna came along, and we had been living alone as a pack for a few years. Even tho the boyz have each other for company, they still want attention from their Alpha, and I'm not too sure of exactly how willing they are to share me with Donna. I can be here all morning typing and they'll be in the kitchen minding their own business until Donna comes into the living room and begins talking with me. Then it's a riot in the center of the room trying to be noticed. Just like 4-year-olds....
Donna has full step-mom privileges, and the boys are expected to do what she tells them, although even after more than a year, they'll look to me: "Do we really have to dad?" And of course, the answer is yes.
Buster thinks it's great fun to howl and stomp, and run under the kitchen table when he's told to go to his box (crate). He comes out from under the table--first on one side, then on the other... "Chase me!! Bet ya can't catch me!"
Benny used to have separation anxiety, and even tho Buster is in his crate when we go out, Benny does much better just knowing Buster's in the house. Benny gets the run of the house. It seems to help settle his anxiety when he can run from window to window. Unfortunately for him, one of the windows--the biggest window in the house is behind the living room sofa.
Now it happens that Donna is responsible for the acquisition of this sofa, and it's where she spends most of her time doing school work! Last time we were out, Benny had borrowed the sofa to get a better look out the window, and accidentally knocked over a stack of Donna's books, that were, naturally, left on her living room throne.
Today Donna was determined to keep Benny off the sofa, and I saw this when I walked into the room....

She was going on about how "this'll keep the Big Fat Fucker off the couch," and "I'd like to see him get on *my* couch now". I couldn't help myself--I busted out laughing! "You're having a battle of wits with a dog," I pointed out and laughed even harder.
Donna soon found the humor in the situation, and although I have a sore spot on my.. well, never mind that... all turned out well. We went to the scheduled appointment and stopped off at a plant nursery on the way home. I already have some vegetable plants to plant, but this place had some nice lettuce, and we also got a few flowers to fill a few hanging baskets. More about that when I get things planted. There's another freeze warning posted for tonight, but it should be safe to plant sensitive plants after tomorrow!
I had a few comments to make about eggplant--the eggplant parm turned out great, but that will keep. Have a good night!
