Arby Crossed the Rainbow Bridge

Five years ago or so, Donna saw a listing on a trade'n'sell list for guinea pig supplies. The pig was included free. LOL Anyway, we went to get the pig and the supplies and he was the cutest lil thing I had ever seen. My friend's kid had a hamster years ago and I wasn't impressed, but the pig turned out to be a really nice addition to the pack.

He'd greet me in the morning with a request for carrot and he'd remind me if I took too long to deliver. He lived in a pigdom in the first bedroom and Donna and I would both pass him often during the day.

He was basically just a rodent, but cute goes a long way. Rodents don't seem to serve much useful purpose in the world but caring for them can add great joy to the lives of humans. It's hard to believe that I became so attached to him. His remains are in a box in his room and if the worm spell had thawed the ground I will dig a hole tomorrow in a patch of lilac.

Probably could have tried today, but I'm not quite ready to say goodby. Here's a pic for those who can't lode video:

The video below is of me and Arby. I'm changing the bedding in the pigdom with him present. He inspects each cup of sawdust and hops up on the railing when he hears the treat bag.

What an adorable creature. Losing a pet is so sad because you are their God, and they think you can solve everything. He got some time out of the enclosure as well, didn't he? You have my heartfelt sympathy (lost one of my kitties in August, still not recovered).

He come out to play in the house but Donna was always afraid to let me take him outside. There are vids on youtube where large birds snatch small critters so perhaps the fear was justified. But he would have had a great time harvesting his own dandelion leaves and whatever else he would have done out there.

Ugh... They can be difficult to sex, but a pair should most definitely be the same sex.

Sorry about this. These tiny little guys are so fragile and go so soon.

Yeah, my experience is with dogs and the oldest one if have now is 14 and the one before him lived to be almost 18. This was different.

So sorry. He was so cute and had such pretty markings. I love the Meer
Kats at the zoo.

Yeah, I've seen many pigs on youtube and he's at the top of the cute spectrum.

Sorry--I usually care more when an animal dies than a human being--they seem so much more vulnerable (and worthy?)

Couldn't agree more. My boys could probably feed themselves and drink from streams if I wasn't around for them, but a pig is totally dependent for the most basic needs of survival. I think it's that element that got me so attached to him. I gave him carrot in the morning and hay before bed--first and last thing I did for the day...
