ME ALLEN
Allen
does volunteer work on Tuesday evenings and, usually, when we have an
opening of a touring show on Miami he will get someone to fill in for
him. When we went to see "The Addams Family Musical" he went in, set up
and then picked me up so with 3 hours before show time we decided to get
a 'bite' at Lester's Diner.
I've
written a review, and other posts, about Lester's which is a landmark
in Fort Lauderdale since the 60s if not before then. They are what you
would call a 'typical mybloggers spoon' except for the fact that place was
completely redone a few years ago and it, as well as the food, is far
from mybloggers anymore and, I will add, their prices reflect the changes!
They are open 24/7, are re-known for the crazy crowds they get after
the bars close.
They
do make and serve huge portions of comfort foods and have an never
ending menu. The waitresses try to be surly but they aren't old enough
to remember how diner servers are suppose to be! LOL
I
really don't like to eat 'heavy' before going to the theatre--actually I
don't like eating at all before the theatre--and I have been looking
for a tuna fish sandwich. Now that may sound strange but it is hard to
find a tuna fish sandwich on a menu in a full service restaurant but
they had one and I ordered it on rye bread with sliced tomato and
onions. It came with a slice of sour pickle and a small cup of cole
slaw. Allen had the same only on wheat toast.
Okay,
confession time--I cannot go to Lester's without having their carrot
cake (hey Cats you didn't send me a slice of yours--what was I suppose
to do?) so I did. Hey we still had 2 hours before curtain time! Allen
(reading Chuck?) had the German Chocolate cake. With tax and tip the
'snack cost $36--for tuna fish sandwiches???? But it all was good.
