Allen
and I eat lunch out on Wednesdays and grab a bite after the movies of
Friday. As it gets closer to the end of the month and money starts to
run out we get away from the fancier style 'better' restaurants and
start going to the 'family type'--I was going to say cheap but there
aren't any in that category anymore as even the fast food places aren't
cheap! Lunch can run anywhere from $12-15 even with 2-4-1 coupons!!!
We
have a 'reward card' for the Quarterdeck so we went there for lunch the
last Wednesday of the month--Allen had the daily special of fish &
chips and I had the lunch special which was a hot pastrami sandwich with
cheese, slaw and 1,000 island dressing plus our drinks--with the reward
card points it only cost us $6 each which included a healthy tip--the
check was $4!!!
After
seeing "Margin Call" we rode down to Jimmy John's. Don't know why but
after years, yes years, of not having one I have been craving tuna fish
sandwiches and so I had one! It was good. I just wish they had 'full
service' but we did save on the server's tip and that's what one has to
do at the end of the month. :O(
To
me---hey that's me and I am a snob when it comes to eating out--the
nadir of eating out is a fast food place and, because I had a $2 off
coupon and, again, it was the end of the month, we went to Boston Market
for lunch. I had a turkey platter with greens, mash potatoes and
cornbread while Allen had the chicken pot pie. I must admit mine didn't
taste too bad but then again---for me--the portion was too small! LOL
After
awhile I start confusing IHOP and Denny's except the service is always
worse at the latter but when money is getting tight I whip out a 20% off
coupon for either one and let Allen pick which to go to. I know this is
IHOP because of what I ordered; a cheese omelet with a side of pancakes
which is standard for me when I go there. Allen had the club sandwich.
And
now we are back to the first of the month and can go to the 'better',
new places to enjoy. We aren't quite up to the Morton Steak House
prices--even when they have a 3 course dinner special for $65 (plus tax,
drink, tip, valet parking) per person!

"One is happy as a result of one's own efforts, once one knows
the necessary ingredients of happiness--simple tastes,
a certain degree of courage, self-denial to a point,
love of work, and above all, a clear conscience.
Happiness is no vague dream."
