It
pays to advertise as it was strictly due to a newspaper ad that we went
to Garamoff's down in Hallandale. What caught my eye was the section
that said, "10 ounce Prime Rib for $12.99, 32 ounce, with bone, Prime
Rib $22.95". Prime Ribs, especially on the bone, is one of my favorite
suppers . It was the beginning of the month and I talked Allen into going there . We
drove down Federal Highway and though it is a few miles south of Fort
Lauderdale, and we passed right by it, we finally got there! It is right
across from the Gulfstream racetrack and casino.
There
are 2 menus available with one being a lunch menu with items starting
at $5.99, plus beverage, and their regular dinner menu which is served
all day. The restaurant has, basically, a steak house look with black
accessories and walnut wood tables and walls. The tables have white
butcher paper and the heavy silverware is wrapped in large black
napkins. In the center of the room is an oval bar with what is now the
mandatory televisions.
Serge, our
server, came to the table promptly, took our drink order (Iced Tea and
Coffee, $2.50 each) and brought them back in a timely manner and
immediately asked us if we had any questions, which we did and he
answered all knowledgeably. Like most steak houses everything is ala carte which can raise a check up pretty quickly. It's a good thing neither Allen or I drink alcohol!!
I
did notice that on the back of the menu on the bottom it said, "Monday
Thru Friday, between 2 & 4 PM 25% OFF ALL ENTREES" and it was 2 PM.
I, of course, was going to have the prime rib and it was just having to
choose between the 16 and 32 ounce cut. I was a good boy and ordered the
former, as did Allen. He, also, ordered a Caesar salad with garlic
bread which was only $2.95 if added to an entree. We decided to share a
side of cheese and macaroni ($4.95) which Serge said would be more than
enough for both of us and he was right.
I
ordered mine rare and Allen had his medium rare. The mac and cheese had
a dinner platter as an under-liner but there was no room for it on the
table so the platter went.
The
prime rib was roasted on what Serge referred to as 'Canadian Spices'
which are the latest buzz words in the restaurant business. The prime
rib was rare, tasty and could have been cut with a fork--delicious. We
cleaned our plates and I scrapped out the last bit of cheese in the
cheese and mac dish.
The
server asked us if we wanted dessert but I mentioned to Allen that on
the way through Hollywood I noticed an Italian ices and ice cream place
plus, if we didn't find it, we would pass Jaxon's, a world famous, for
good reason, ice cream restaurant so we just asked for the check.
As
I mentined in another review we go to the higher priced restaurants in
the beginning of the month and the less expensive ones as the end of the
month comes around. With the discount, plus a 20% tip based on the
original prices, the check came to $42.36 which is too high for lunch
but the food was certainly worth it! And I do want to go back for the 32
ounce bone in cut!!!!
