Santa in Florida, Crazy Republicans & Other Things

I
love Florida but we do have some crazies here and I'm not excepting
myself. Right now South Florida is talking about seceding from the rest
of the State and they would be justified but that's another blog. Read
on.

It's
a good thing Arnie saw him also or I wouldn't have believed my eyes. It
was 90 degrees out and we were riding up Federal highway when at the
the corner of Davie Boulevard, on the southwest corner, we saw Santa. He
was sitting on a bus bench, waving to people, without a shirt o
n but he couldn't hide the beard. It is off-season for him so he had lost weight but it was him!

The
Republicans run Florida. We have a Republican Governor and the majority
of the House and the Senate are Republicans as is the Florida Supreme
Court. All you have to do is read just some of the laws they passed last
week, most causing lawsuits which the State will have to pay to defend
and chances are they will lose them. I just want to briefly discuss one
of them.

They
passed a law that all people on welfare must pass drug tests before
they get their benefits. Of course they passed the law without thinking
of the logistics. Those on welfare will have to pay for the test--mmmmm,
wonder where they will get the money? And if they pass the test their
money will be refunded! I won't even ask when or how as a lot are
homeless. With all this can you imagine thousands of old people, who
take legal drugs, lined up for the test in Florida heat? Nothing has
been discussed about all the extra help that will be hired but then our
Republican Governor did promise a lot of new jobs, among other things. I
can see it now when .005% are found on drugs and the headlines blaring
how great Republicans are doing as old folks starve waiting for their
'refunds'. Oh yes, a lawsuit has already been started.

Very
simply, I HATE phones, all kinds. I hate to make calls and I hate
receiving calls and since cellphones have been introduced it is crazier
than usual. I won't get into people using them in the most inappropriate
places but why does everyone have to shout when they are on cellphones?

In
the 1980s I, literally, had a phone phobia. I couldn't/wouldn't touch
any kind of phone and when I had no choice but to pick the phone up I
would be soaked in sweat. Eventually it passed but most anyone who knows
me knows that if you call me tell me what you want and get off the
phone because I don't want to be rude! In fact just email me.

Martin's musings. Glad to read about your phone phobia. I thought I was the only crazy one. I just wish I didn't have one at all (land-line), paying $35/mo for basic service. Grrr.

I pay $6 but that's because I am poor---shhhhhh--don't tell the Republicans!

I feel the same way you do about telephoning. It's worse with cell phones because they cut out and only one person can talk at a time. I suppose they are good for people who like to monopolize the conversation.
