Sneak Preview, Ideas, Suggestions & a Week Later

You will notice that the well dressed Gateway Gazette editor
makes sure that his watch strap is co-ordinated with his shirt and
though you can't see it in his pocket he is also carrying a matching
yellow pen
. I just love the Dollar Tree! LOL

********************************************************************

Was
it just a week ago that I was feeling a little overwhelmed about
volunteering to be the editor of the Gateway Gazette?  Well here it is
the next Thursday and I am hoping to wrap up the June issue by Monday
and am already planning the July issue but it all depends on the
co-operation of others and last minute insertions. One of the things I
will be working on this weekend is reformatting page 2 to get additional
information in but the major job will be the calendar. The mistakes on
that has always bugged me so, if nothing else, I hope it is proof read
by 3-4 of us to catch any possible mistakes.

The
easiest part has been the cover though I just may rework the words to
the left of the date to make them a little more prominent.  Here I am
with June not near going to press and I already have the next 12 covers
in mind. I want each cover to highlight a different aspect of Gateway
and the things that make it so great to live here which is why I put the
water, sky and fauna on the June issue.

The following covers, in no particular order will be:

2) The Women of Gateway  3) The Men of Gateway
For
the record I have had no problem with getting the women to let me take
their pictures but the men go running!! What's that about? LOL

4)   The Gardens Of Gateway  Many people spend a lot of time on personal
gardens and they deserve to be seen by many. I wish you could see the
many bananas on this tree.  5) The Pets of Gateway. No problem with the dogs but since most of the
cats are inside and I'm not sure if anyone has birds I will have to put
some notices in the Gazette hoping people will help.  6) The east section of Gateway consisting of the pool, The Point surrounded by Karen Bay and the wide vista.   7) The Boats of Gateway Many people dock their boats at the Gateway
docks for long periods of time and some are a sight to behold. 8) The Landmarks of Gateway  You might not be able to see it in the
picture but as you enter Gateway there are hedges on the left spelling
out Gateway. There is the breezeway where the 'mindless' meet, which I
will have to explain, and we hope to get more people to join us at
sunset. We will have to talk to our administrator about that as people
use to have A, that's ONE, cocktail around sunset, no one abusing the booze, but rules have changed.        9) What's available at Gateway from the library to the community room and the beauty parlor, the laundry rooms and more. 10) Celebrating holidays at Gateway from people who decorate for
Christmas to the Easter Bonnet luncheon and, of course, St. Patrick's
Day and each month a birthday party.

I
really think the covers will be attractive enough to frame and hang
them on a wall in the office or the community room but that's in the
future.

*****************************************************************

I
really want to put a column in the next issue to get people to
volunteer ideas they would like to see or to follow through. Aside from
the covers mentioned we have a few talented artists who I want to
approach about possibly drawing a cover. I did introduce a few columns
in the June issue that I hope people will respond to such as "The
Question Of The Month"--in this issue I dealt with a change we had of
the mail not being delivered until 6-6:30 PM and I was able to get an
explanation from our regular mail person, Mark I want to do a Spotlight on the Office Staff with a picture and short
bio of a different lady  each month---before you yell discrimination or
stereotyping we have a large crew of menworking at Gateway. Along with
that idea a Meet Your Neighbor column. We have a lot of Interesting
people here, from all walks of life, and can get some good stories and
advice. As most of us live on social security there is a column of ways
of saving money and you just know I will be emphasizing eating out
coupons and The Dollar Tree Store!!! LOL

******************************************************************

By
the way I am open to any suggestions you might have but be careful--we
have a YOUNG administrator who doesn't want any talk of sex and the good
things in life like that--Kidding Suzanne!

"Problems are a major part of life.

Don't whine about why you always have problems...

Get on with the solving.

Take it from someone who has been there---

the solving gets easier as you go along."

For a guy that lives one day at a time, you certainly have things planned out well ahead of time! Looking good. Almost makes me wish I was a member of your community. Nah.

For all I know I could be 'fired' tomorrow--besides the world ends tomorrow, doesn't it?--but just in case I'm not. People are usually surprised at how prepared I am for things--actually so am I!
